MaLa and zSnes
« on: October 19, 2006, 04:39:39 pm »
I've got MaLa working w/ atari & Mame so far. Here's the problem w/ snes:

1) MaLa wants to know the extension of the rom files to locate the right files in a given directory. The snes roms have no extension (except for 6 that are .srm), so when I just put a comma in the rom extensions box and then refresh the main game list, it finds all 731 roms, but displays NO NAMES!!! You can scroll up and down, but no names are listed and it won't run any of the games.

I've run zSnes through the command prompt and the gui and had little to no problems (cmd works fine, zSnes GUI can't see any of the roms in the directory untill I check the "show all extensions" box, and then it shows and plays all of them w/o problem).

Anyone every come across this one before, know the rom extension, or think they have an idea?

I never heard of that problem since all of my Super Nintendo Roms are ZIP'd so they have a "zip" extension of course.   The file located within the ZIP'd file has a SFC extension.

If the games work with the zsNes emulator without having an extension, then why not simply add any extension you want to all your files and then play the games via MALA.    I believe MALA requires a Rom file extension ..... but the extension does not have to be a specific extension, so just pick one you like.

BTW: I loved reading "Ender's Game".   Great book.

Thanx UncleT. I grabbed this nice little program that let me change all 760 rom extensions to ".srm" in 2 seconds and a good majority of them work. So simple, yet so effective. Oh, I wanted to thank you for your MaLa installer/setup walkthrough (it's the main reason I chose MaLa as a FE).

Absolutely. You can grab it from cnet (download.com). It's called "extension changer" (go figure). Enjoy
