I own a 36" Gateway Destination monitor. Its no TV. But being a huge monitor, the scanlines (or dot pitch) are obviously larger than your normal desktop monitor. Unless you are planning on standing 2 feet in front of the monitor, the scanlines are not noticable.
The past problem with these monitors was their application, and not function. They were supposed to replace your TV so you could write emails, and watch NTSC tv at the same time. The problem was the video card in these old machines was utter crap, resulting in a bad pixelated/artifacting NTSC picture, and in turn giving the gateway destination brand a bad name. Gateway then discontinued it.
These monitors have been a well hidden secret for a long time. I got my 36" for $500 2 years ago, and can't believe how awsome it is to play Dreamcast games on it. I still hope to someday build that showcase style cabinet for it. My only wish was that it could also display 15khz (which it can't natively).
