I can tell you right now the gameplay on that is gonna suck.  The trackball will be easy to hack though.

LMAO! ;D

Maybe put a couple of cup holders on it, and I think it could use a bigger monitor.  The one on there just isn't big enough...and cut a hole in the bottom to put a fridge in it...  ;D

Or hook an ACT LABS light gun up to it so you can shoot the ships with that....

Dude, the one second from the left... I have that one, in purple.  They were produced as a very early MAME CP a few years back.  IIRC it has a Hagstrom KE72 inside.

Yeah it works. The listing has a video link. So now, the game's coin counter says 16.

That thing is easily worth $3500.

Coin counters can be reset or replaced, I hope you aren't going by that.

Computer space... a mint computer space, I've give around 1000 for it.  Except for costly motion sim cabs, I've yet to find one worth more than 700.

im with rayb on this one. if you look at things like the coin door for instance, not only is it not scratched from coins but not even the screenprinted words are damaged by time! if i could have one for $3500 i would! right now its $2650 with 4 days left. my only worry is that if it breaks down it might be impossible to fix. but hey, the game play wouldnt be that exciting anyway so it would only be turned on every now and then to show friends (",)

Nothing is impossible to fix.  I would think that the boards are so freakin' simple that it would be very easy to fix.  No ICs.  Find the bad component and swap.  I doubt there is anything OOP on there is probably nothing more complex than a transistor on it.

Amazing how things like this always degrade into alegations of "scam" and misrepresentation.  ::)  These guys have sold New In Box arcade machines before. They are well known game dealers. There is no reason to be suspicious of this one.

I wouldn't pay $3500 myself either. I don't have the kind of cash to blow on something that should be sitting in a museum. But that IS the value of it. Working USED Computer Space machines HAVE sold for well over 3 grand before.

Oh look, 4 DAYS left in the auction and it's already over $3k...

ahem:

see those things that look like IC's  ;)

my worry centres on the real possibility that some of those IC's (or all) aren't made anymore, as has happened with defender (i think). or galaga, something like that. and while i know there are people who have made direct swap hacks (a pcb with a modern IC on it that can solder in directly where the old one was) for those IC's i wonder if there would be any demand for anyone to make the equivalent for computer space

Those ICs are almost certainly ROMs or RAM.  Either way, there is likely a modern equivalent of them.

Ahum.....guys...........why would it be called COMPUTER space if there were no IC's in it ?

 :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Yes, sure it's worth a couple of grand, but it's not worth it for ME. I wouldn't dare even touch the machine....what use is that ?
Can you imagine yourself, receiving that machine, plugging it in, putting a coin in it and actualy ADDING 1 GAME TO THAT COUNTER ???????

I'd fork out a couple of hundreds for a nice working Ms.Pac Man or Q*Bert though and I want to PLAY that succer !!
Don't want to start a museum. This one should be behind glass walls and never touched again. Well ventilated with filtered air, exact temperature and humidity control.

Come to think of it......did anyone ever try to re-build a cab like this ? It's all nice sawing MDF boards etc. but THIS would really be a challenge :D

Guess someone who has acces to a glass-fiber gun could come some way, but you'd need molds.....and I doubt anyone with a Computer Space will allow you to make some......

Now if the original molds would surface........THAT would be a money maker :D:D

I totaly LOVE that cab design. I think it's still holding up after all those years. It doesn't look old-fashioned. Sure the TV-set gives it away, but the cab itself, never been improved on after.....

By the way, did anyone here bid already ? I mean, just for fun....still 3 days to go, no WAY it's going to stay at your bid....;);)

that would look great next to my space war.... and if i had the cash to spare i would bid..... but i dont... and that kind of cash would bring a nice pin or a few really nice cabs......

but it would be nice to own another piece of video game history...

just as a point of fact, you dont need anything more complicated than glass rollers and paint brushes to make one or two fibreglass objects, or even quite a few...

making the plug would be problematic though. like you say, whos going to lend you one for that? and i doubt youll find accurate dimensions anywhere. althogh i did notice on his site that he has some non-working computer space cabs. hmmm...

If we are going to get a mold, the CP needs to be bigger ;) No Frankensteining here, the arch forming going to the CP needs to get wider at the end...

There isn't a processor.  That is pure TTL circuitry.  Processor chips weren't introduced until the Atari 2600 (the fact that it was introduced in a game console is just coincedence).

Not the type he was talking about... looked a lot like he was talking about a real CPU.

The point is, there have been "computing machines" in existence long before integrated chips.

Charles Babbage's "difference engine" for example was a mechanical computer.

The abacus is a mechanical computer.  It's just not automated.

I've got a fever...
