Anyone using PCI Express?
« on: July 08, 2006, 04:03:21 pm »
Hey guys I am building a cab soon, and I have always built computers with AGP.  I will not be using the Arcade VGA or anything like that.  I am just going to be looking for a card that has the component outs and putting it into a Sharp 27inch TV.  Most of the cards and stuff that I see now are PCI Express.  Is PCI Express good and will it work okay with MAME or is AGP better for MAME?  I am trying to determine my MOBO model and Video Card.

Thanks

NightGod

PCI Express is perfectly fine unless you end up using an arcade monitor and need an Arcade VGA card, which only come in AGP versions. Since you're going the TV route, you shouldn't have any problems.

Just to reiterate what NightGod said, There should be no problem using PCI-E. The main benefit for PCI-E is that it allows more bandwith and provides more power for the cards that need it (the current high-end/future cards). AGP 8x still had life left in it, but the industry decided to switch for the afrementioned reasons.

Any card that has TV-out should work (most cards do; many even have component video out which would provide better clairity).

Thanks guys since I am using a 27 inch Sharp TV with component outs I will be going the PCI E route.  Also going to find a good Radeon with the component out hookups.

Thanks

Even if you don't find a card with component out you can get a VGA to component adapter.  Try a search around here as I'm certain it's been mentioned before.
