I think you should check your keyboard setup in the options dialog. Choose different keys for switching the emu and game start! Have a look: http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/controllerconfig.html

Looks strange indeed. No starting action ...
Move all emus from the desktop to c: or something. Then point to the new location of the executable in the emu setup. I don't think that it is necessary to reinstall MaLa.
