Mame issues with 64-bit OS
« on: May 29, 2006, 11:20:53 am »
Does anyone use Mame on a 64-bit system? I just tried it out on a 64-bit version of XP and I'm running into an issue where most games refuse to start.

I'm running with Mame32 v0.104 and the games that are giving me issues tend to be the older classics such as Pac-Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, etc. The ROMs will load and the game will start with the two Mame32 splash/info screens (type OK and press any key), but then it stops and brings me back to the Mame32 frontend.

It's not a huge issue since this isn't my primary machine for running Mame, but it's just odd.

Maybe try running the games in a window.

Here's instructions if you don't know how to do this:
Right click on the game that isn't working go down and select properties.  Then a new window should pop up.  Go to the tab that says display.  Put a check mark in Run in a window, click on the apply button and run the game to see if it works.

I've tried running in a window and playing around with the Display, Advanced and Direct3D settings, but it's the same result each time.

Mame32 runs fine on my three other 32-bit platforms and I've only encountered these issues on this 64-bit box. Is anyone else running Mame32 on 64-bit platforms successfully?

Just curious, don't you need a 64-bit compile of MAME for that?

Actually, I'm not looking for a 64-bit version of Mame - although it would be nice. ;D  Instead, I'm trying find out what other folk's experiences have been running Mame32 on 64-bit versions of Windows.

I have many 32-bit apps running on this box and they pose little or no issue.  This Mame32 problem is new to me and I'm just curious if it's a result of the 64-bit OS.
