A couple button questions
« on: March 17, 2006, 03:22:23 pm »
I am about to build my cabinet, it is fairly simple, and uses 4 Pelican Real Aracade Stick (Universal) setups with adapters, a computer, edit:  MAME32, maybe an xbox, 2 light guns, 19 inch tv etc...  Anyway, here is some information for my 2 questions:

It seems I have 2 different versions of the Pelican Real Arcade Stick (Universal), 2 of one kind, and 2 of the other, one kind is a little smaller, came in an orange/blue box, and has no cord storage compartment, the other kind is a little larger, came in a Yellow/Blue box, and has a cord storage compartment.  They both work, but on the smaller one, the 2 buttons next to mode don't work, and a couple of the other buttons have unorderly button number assignments, it shows up in game controllers in windows as a 4 in 1 wheel, the larger joysticks work fine in all ways I can tell, and show up as a squiggly symbol then a b (integral symbol in math).

1st  Question:  Is there any way I can make the smaller ones work like the larger ones, with all buttons working and in order?

2nd  Question:  If I can't get those 2 extra buttons on the two smaller controllers working, or even if I can how can I rig up some extra buttons on my control panel easily?

Edit:  3rd  Question:  Random question, can I run chd files off of a cd if my computer doesn't have enough room left?

While you probably could run CHDs off of a CD if you tinkered enough.  You could also tow a car by horse everytime you needed to go somewhere.  That said, your HD is much faster.

Now I'm curious.  I do wonder how slowly the system will load a CHD from a CD.  Mame writes all info to the hard drive regarding CHDs (ie DIFF) so R/O is fine...hm...TESTING TIME!  Who wants to go?

I'll test it if someone sends me a cd with all the chd's on it  :)    just kidding, at this point, I don't have any working chd's.

I'm curious as well... I'm guessing that a modern CD Drive is quite fast enough. It'd be nearly matching the output of the early hard drive CHD's, time to put Area51 on a CD and see what happens, me thinks.

I am glad I sparked your interests, and I am still interested as well, but does anyone know any helpful information about my first two questions?

Are the adapters part of the pelican stick?  If not, try using a different one.  It sounds like the adapter is telling the computer the wrong info, so the computer is misunderstanding what's connected.

It the adapter is part of the stick, not much you can do AFAIK.

no, the adapter is not part of the stick, it is 4 of the same individual adapters, and 2 of the joysticks work great, all buttons, and the other two, as described above, 2 buttons don't work etc... the adapters are 4 of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8268845535&ssPageName=MERC_VI_ReBay_Pr4_PcN_BIN_Stores_IT
thanks.
