Warborg:

--- Quote from: Silver on January 23, 2006, 07:12:27 am ---This gun looks very promising, as mentioned in a previous thread I've ordered one to test it out. Hopefully it will be accurate enough. (And stay accurate in 2 player mode - strangely it will only work with 1 LED stand in use in 2 player mode.) Its a similar technolgy to the later House in the Dead arcade games  (which had infra red LED's all round the screen for tracking).

As it reads in their FAQ, you just need to set up one SET of LED stands...  At least, that's how it sounds to me...
Extreme8:
Since this is infrared and not using a visible light source I assume it would work with the LED stands mounted behind tinted glass.
When someone has one of these things in-hand can you take a moment to verify this?
Silver:
Cost has not come through yet, but its $29.99 US + shipping, so I think

and thats going to be my problem.. I wont be able to get behind the glass again now that my cabinet is completed. I will have to mount the stands externally, neatly somehow.. if its just 1.5cm in width it might not be too much of a problem...

@Extreme8:
I would guess so although I am not familiar with how much (tinted) glass affects infrared (if at all). It certainly mentions that other infra-red sources (yellow lights/sunlight/reflections off the ground) will interfere with the gun. It may have an impact of range. I think the limit is 4-5meters. I also suspect based on the technology that you can't get too close - the gun presumably needs to see all the LED point sources at the same time. I will try when I get mine, although I don't have any tinted glass. (or a cab either...)

Tinted glass should not affect it at all.. think a hifi cabinet with a DVD player inside, very often the glass is tinted, yet you can still use your remote control just fine
