Silver:
You don't need any kind of VGA box.

For this gun, the monitor (or lack of) is utterly irrelevant. It has 5 infra-red light sources mounted on 2 thin LED stands that should be mounted wither side of your display. Looks like the sensor is built into the gun.

Also, I see no reason that you could not mount the LED stands above and below the monitor. As far as the gun is concerned this is the same as just holding it at an angle, and it you go the product website there are videos of it in use you can download, where the gun is being held upsidedown at one point. (you would have to remember where to fire for calibration - eg bottom left instead of top left etc...)

This gun looks very promising, as mentioned in a previous thread I've ordered one to test it out. Hopefully it will be accurate enough. (And stay accurate in 2 player mode - strangely it will only work with 1 LED stand in use in 2 player mode.) Its a similar technolgy to the later House in the Dead arcade games  (which had infra red LED's all round the screen for tracking).

It has its own windoze driver (not sure what that means for linux) as well as working with the Gun2Mouse driver. This should mean it can be used with most emulators (ie non mame ones).

Having said all that, I've not seen or heard anyone who has yet tried one (its quite new)... Proof of Pudding and all that.... Mines shipped today apparantly, so 1 journey round the world later and we shall see...
