Best Front End for use with TV
« on: January 31, 2003, 12:04:20 am »
I have read through each one of the front ends listed in the "Software" section of arcadecontrols and there are so many that seem good. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time lately to try any out. I have also gone to people's cab pages to see what other people are using with TV as their display, and I just can't seem to get a good feel for one.

I am going to be using component video from an ATI Radeon 8500 so I should get a better picture than with S-video. However, that also means I am going to have to run Windows to support the component out. What is a good Windows front end for TV support?

Thanks in advance.

The one I use and have best luck on my cab's tv with has been Mamewah, downloadable here:

http://mamewah.mameworld.net/

He is working on an update to it that looks really nice too.

I'm using Emulaxian in the full 3-D virtual arcade mode, on a 27" Toshiba TV, and it looks just great!  If you can invest the time to learn to configure it, it is extremely flexible and can pretty much launch anything you might want to launch...

Game Launcher.  The best one for an arcade cabinet style machine.

I too am using mamewah, but not the latest version (0.9 I think).  I had lots of issues with that one.
The previous release runs real stable and is easy to setup (.895 I think).

I am running EmuTron on my Mame cab. It's highly configurable, and you can change the Font Size.

I haven't tried Game Launcher with XP.  The website says it runs on Windows and I run it on Windows 2000 which is not much different than XP.

I have been using Lazarus on my 27" TV cabinet and it looks/works great.  Take a look at my software section for screens:

It should.  Make sure to grab the Windows binary, not the DOS binary, though.
