I just bought a MKII for $400 did I get a good deal
« on: November 21, 2005, 01:20:22 pm »
like the subject says I just bought a dedicated MKII for $400 off ebay. It looks to be in good shape except when left on for a while it will reset itself. Im just wanting to get some opinions on wether or not I got a good deal.

Tough question. "Good shape" to some people might not be the same to others. For example, are you experienced enough to know when a monitor looks like it's in good condition?

The fact that it resets itself is a problem. If it didn't have a problem I'd say you got an "ok" deal but on the high end. but the fact that it's defective makes me think you got a little ripped.

I'm sure others will pop in here and say you shouldn't have paid more than $200, while others will say they sell on Ebay for $600+, so who knows.

I agree with Ray, if you think you got a good deal, that's all that matters.  Some people wouldn't pay $100 for it, others might pay way more than the $400 you paid.... it all depends on how badly a person wants a game.

first off your and idiot

Yep, I would only think I got a good deal if it came with $300.

heh exactly.

FWIW, I got a MK1 machine with painted over sides ( :( ) for $100 or so a while back, and it was a perfectly working game.

wow Ive never seen one go for less than $350 and that one was all scratched up at a super auction. If $400 is high then aparently Im looking in the wrong places because I thought it was cheap. Im going to go look at it before I actually pay for it but if it looks ok i will definately get it.

well if you've been researching ebay and going to superauctions, you know what's a good deal then. i think you'll find many people here got their cabs for free or dirt cheap so take all opinions in that context.

My Mortal Kombat II machine, in a dedicated MK1 cabinet, did the same thing when I first got it.  I opened the front sliding area and slid the board out a bit and left it on for a couple days and it never reset.  I believe it was getting too hot inside, but could be wrong.  I added a fan and pushed it back in place and it has never reset again, going on 6 months now.  Maybe this will be helpful.

Ebay is generally high, see the results I posted from a recent superauction in Illinois:

Remove the JAMMA connector and clean the PCB edge connector with either a pink eraser or a fiberglass pen.  Also push down on all socketed chips.  Then check the voltage @ the JAMMA harness (without the board plugged in, of course).  Hopefully it should be ~5.18VDC.  If it's higher or lower, adjust as necessary.  Then plug it back in and remeasure at the board.

i might be selling MK2, Ultimate MK3 and MK4 (all boards working 100%) as a package deal if the price is right.

Will a jamma connector from MK2 hook right into an MK3 or 4 and be up and running?  Well, except for the lack of a run button.  I might be interested in your setup if the price isnt too high.

you would need to add the run button as MK2 did not have that one. make me an offer on the boards if interested.

I would be willing to trade a stock MK3 CP with a run button for a MKII CP with no run button.  I'm trying to restore a MKII cab.

Your CP must be in close to perfect shape (they usually are b/c of the plexi) and I just need the cover and wood piece, no buttons or joysticks, to make shipping easier.
