Like New eMachines w/ LCD Mon and Print [US-NJ]
« on: November 20, 2005, 04:24:07 pm »
Just bought this at Circuit City. We wanted to return it, but they won't take it back mecause we had to open the case to install a wireless card. Comes with a 15" Flat Panel and a Lexmark Multifunction Printer. Specs are as follows:

3.06GHz Pentium 4
1 GB RAM
200GB 7200RPM Serial ATA HDD
16x DVD-RW DL
7 USB ports, 3 Firewire Ports
1 serial port, 1 parallel port.
8 in 1 flash card reader
Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Comes with Keyboard, mouse, all original packaging, and the system restore DVD.

Asking $600. Will not go lower. Sorry. We want to get back what we paid

Will ship, but you can also pick it up

why you want to return it ? I mean, you bought it cause you wanted it. Did you see/know something later that you did not like about ?

No. I'd rather not talk about why we need to be rid of it. It works flawlessly.

Wireless card is not included. Boxes will not have the UPCs because they have been sent in for rebates. The model is T5020. You will only find that exact model at Circuit city

I understand that you want to get back what you paid, but by opening the case, you've voided the warranty.

It's just not worth $600 anymore  :-\

Good luck
first off your and idiot

I would assume that it is now worth what you paid, Minus the rebates, and the wireless card.

But it is hard to ask that much for it. In order for someone to go out on a limb and purchase a pc from someone that they probably do not know, also a machine with NO warranty?

They would have to have some sort of incentive. The reason why Circuit City won't take it back is the same exact reason why NOBODY on this forum is going to buy your now USED and warranty VOID PC.
It just isn't worth it.

But frankly I admire the balls with which you ask for such a price.

I'm not sure why the warranty is voided in this case, despite the case being opened.  Unless authorized eMachines personnel are supposed to be doing all the installation of any upgrades.

So what you are saying is you paid 599.99 new for it, sent in rebates so you will recieve $xx.xx back in rebates, and now are selling the thing for 600.00??  Sounds like you are making money off of this to me.   ???

in the OP's defense, the pc is listed at $599 AFTER $50 rebates. that $600 also does not include monitor or printer.
cc is selling the tower, monitor, and printer for $889.97 before $300 rebates so it's about the same price. they are also bundling a 17" crt instead of the 15" lcd currently and personally i'd prefer the lcd but that doesn't matter.

good luck selling, this crowd is tought and that is fine. you'll probably make more locally - are you near a craigslist? also a newspaper classified ad is prolly about $10. i doubt opening a case voids a warranty but i could understand cc not taking a return. i know store horror stories that people have removed everything inside of towers and added bricks for weight and made returns before. also it's pretty easy to swap out insides and make a return - say putting in less ram or a slower cpu so stores have to be real careful.

I know that Dell does this. A guy I work with has a Dell, and if he even wants to open the case for a cleaning, he has to call Dell support, and they HAVE to talk him through it, or he's toast.

That's not true.   Maybe he feels like he needs to do that, or maybe he has electricity running from his fingers, but there's no reason to call dell before you open your machine.  They clamshell towers are made to be opened and people do it all the time without voiding their warranty.

...I think this is now officially in my top 10 of odd FS items at BYOAC.

I'm glad to see it had a happy ending.

Oh I don't know....I've seen a few odd things here and there with unrealistic expectations attached to them....but I don't have an actual list.....sorry to disappoint!

One of them would be the guy who wanted to "do us all a favor" and started a PM auction on an Act Labs light gun.  Opening bid he was asking for was $80 with expectations of it going up.  That one got a lot of nice comments.
