why 2 "coin" buttons on the CP?
« on: October 13, 2005, 12:00:01 am »
HI all

a thouhgt: is there a reason for having 2 buttons for "inserting coins", more than "it's cool to have a whole bunch of buttons on your CP" ? Are there some games that require this to be separate?

There are a bunch of games where inserting a coin also starts your game, like the Simpsons or Xmen games.  You'd choose a coin slot that corresponds to a character and go from there.

If you wire up a coin button that inserts a coin for all 2/4 players, you'll instantly have 2/4 players on the screen.... even if its just you playing.

That said, most of these games came with versions where characters could be chosen, so you might be ok.  I prefer having a coin button for each player though, but I put them off the control panel whenever possible.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

There's no replacement for a coin door for authenticity.

I do however intend to put hidden coin buttons recessed under the front edge of the CP.

I already ordered my byoac tokens and I haven't even settled on a design

I agree with Mark70 ... you only need one coin up button.

I have mine hidden under the left side of the control panel along with the "TAB" and "ESCAPE" buttons.

Basically, I'm a control freak ... hehe ... the "COINUP NAZI" so to speak.  I get to decide who plays for free and who inserts quarters ... muhahaha  ;D

There are some games where player 2 can only put in credits in coin 2 (and some continues are that way).

If you only have one make it centrally locaed where both players can access it.

I thought about having 4 coin buttons so I could play other characters in TMNT and simpsons, but I realized with only two sitcks I'd have to have a fast way to switch from player 2 controls to player 4 controls or player 3 controls.

there are 2 player versions of the games which allow you to switch through the players.

So...

There are some benefits from having 2 coin-up buttons.
I cant really have a coin-door in my cab, since I already routed cool-looking slots there, through which green neon lights shines mysteriously.. (I'll add a picture when I finally find a good photographer which can document this, since yours truly obviously can not... after 10 attempts)

Got to go... more work to do.

thanks for the input.

Anybody ever tried wiring up a single coin button through a 4 way toggle switch?
Switch to the desired player position and hit the coin button.

Personally, I wouldn't do it but it would probably work.
