Looks like they make USB chips that will let you build your own keyboards, mice, gamepads, and I/O ports.  Or your own USB keyboard, mouse, gamepad, and I/O encoder boards.

One of them will even accept analog (potentiometer) input, and will send the data to USB as either as gamepad OR as mouse data, switchable on the fly.

its just commercial versions of what is already avaliable...

the ics are nothing new, however i have never seen these products of them...
