fighter players, joystick of choice?
« on: August 17, 2005, 03:43:47 am »
I'm looking into the SlikStik Quad so as a fighting-gamer I'd like to know what people think of the default Happ joysticks that come with it?

For perspective, I'm a big fan of the Betson Maximum Joystick, I use it in all my fighting cabinets. It has clicky-feedback so you know the moment the direction connects, and it's good about sticking to the direction you want to go in, which is to say you don't press left and accidentally get a little diagonal in there and end up jumping when you wanted to block.

I tried some "ultimate" Happs before but they were way too tight. It required too much effort to press the directions. I would like to know if the Quad's Happs are different?

Also, how bout those Optical 360 joysticks? How do they feel? Is there a little resistence between the directions so you don't accidentally press a diagonal when you don't mean to?

I've been scanning the boards for feedback on this stuff so don't think I'm ignoring the existing backlog of posts. I'm interesting in particular what users of the Betson Maximum think, if there are any out there.

I like Happ Competition Pros and Sanwa sticks almost equally.  I tend to play a little better (ie: win more often) on the Happ CompPro sticks I find.

The Happ Perfect 360s get pretty rave reviews from the shoryuken.com lads.  They're a little expensive or my taste, as well as finding a 5V source isn't always easy to do, so I've never bothered with them.

I believe the SlikStick Quad comes default with Happ Competition sticks.

Personally I like the P360s.  Best for fighters IMHO.  Smooth motion.  No Click.  No corners to hit.

I replaced the generic worn out crapsticks that came on my MVS with new Supers. It's a different world.

For my 1 and 2 player joysticks i used perfect 360's they are smoother and are perfect for rolling moves in all capcom games, my 3 and 4 players i used competition joysticks as they tend to have a clicky feel to them but are still great anyhow.

After trying 3 or 4 different sticks on my CP, I can say, hands down, the Supers rock!  Just ask around!  BEST bang for the buck!

Good Luck,

I don't play fighters, so I can't comment on which stick you want.

But if you decide you want to try some P360s, don't wait!  They are on sale from Happ right now, they only do this price about once a year.  $32.95 through the end of September.

I saw a thread on the SRK forums about Supers vs Competition.  The split was pretty much 50/50 on which was better.  Like all things, personal preference comes into play.

Unfortunately the only way to find out what you like best is to buy one of everything and try for yourself.  Not cheap, but definitely conclusive. :)

Sanwa sticks are the best for fighters, but they're so expensive :(

I went to a japanese arcade that had all sanwa parts, and imho, they are much better for fighters than any happ's (even p360s which I have in my cab). Sanwa joysticks just take much less effort to use. Only drawback for some is the square shape instead of the circle (but, if you ever play as anyone like Guile, it makes using him a lot easier).

I understand the main difference between the Supers and the Comps is that it's easier to hit the diagonals with the comps.

sanwa jlf
sanwa flash

most precise equiptment you can get.

the new happ p360 suck imo, as well as the opinion of alot of other people from www.shoryuken.com

considering almost every personal arcade stick now that is customly made is sanwa.

buttons = sanwa in japanese fashon... the slight arch allows for your hands to be used more freely on all the buttons.

 arch = more freely?

Convex =   'slip off'  of them : P

Imop, They surely arnt very comfortable in comparison.

IMOP - Comps.   Better diagnals,  easier to maintain,  smoother and faster movment than the slightly stiffer and 'muddy' feeling 'supers'.

Forgive me for my stupidity, but is the J-Stick (as seen here http://ultimarc.com/controls.html) a sanwa joystick?

i beleive it is... but just get them from www.himuragames.com

sanwa is the way to go... and if your fingers slip off the buttons you just shouldnt be playing fighters lol.
