Lighting buttons

I looked around her but haven't seen anyone mentioning about lighting buttons based on the game that is playing.  Do you guys think it is possible to only light the buttons that are used for individual games?  WHat I am thinking is if a game only uses buttons 1 & 2, only light those buttons.

There are two projects in development at the moment that should be able to do this.

Ive been working on something kind of similar, im getting an lcd character display to display information based on what game is being played.  Its pretty exciting because I can just use the source code for mame to send data to the display such as which buttons you should be using.
