Multiple wires to single button?
« on: December 12, 2002, 09:40:46 am »
Hi Guys, I was wondering if it's possible to have multiple wires to a single button. I am building a JAMMA cabinet and will want to have 2 different "profiles" on the control panel.

(Hopefully I can keep this in a rational thought....)

I am going to have the CP layout the same as Mortal Kombat. I also want to have Golden Tee in the same cabinet. (I'll just move the JAMMA harness to the other PCB) Unfortunately the pinout of some of the controls for GT coorespond to joystick movements on the MK pinout. (backspin would be "left", fly-by would be "right").

Tell me if this will work...I'll have 2 wires going to the High Kick and High Punch, each will go to a different molex connector. When the MK PCB is plugged in, the buttons will act as High Kick and High Punch, but when the GT PCB is plugged in, they will act as Backspin and Fly-By.

Would this layout cause any conflicts or loss of signal/reaction time with these controls? Has anyone done this before?

Thanks.

Since you're talking about changing PCBs, just stick a DPDT switch (or two, if necessary) inside the cabinet to switch the connections.

A switch is about the same price as a connector, but a lot easier to use (esp. if you label it).

If JAMMA uses a common ground on the buttons, you can switch them both with one DPDT switch. If in doubt, switch all the wires.
