Wico Trackball + Happs Mounting Plate
« on: December 05, 2002, 01:58:30 pm »
Does the Wico Trackball (2.25" and 3") work with Happs trackball mounting plate?  i.e. without drilling any additional holes in the plastic housing of the trackball case?

I had to redrill the holes in my 3" wico to enlarge them to fit the happs mounting kit (the one without bolts showing on top), but that's not the same as drilling additional holes.  The holes are in the right place, but the happs mounting kit's "nuts" hanging off the bottom are just a little too thick to fit in the wico holes.  13/64" drill bit should do it, but I think I used a 7/32" bit.

If you get the happs mounting plate with the holes in it instead of the kit, you shouldn't have any problems (besides the bolts showing on top of you cp :P ).

fwiw I used the "mounting holes" happs mounting plate that uses 3/16" inch carriage bolts... on an imperial betson trackball (3") that's the same as wico I believe...
(and most trackballs use a standard mounting procedure except for the caveat already noted.  there's pics on my website in the last  page "garbage dump" gallery...

The betson and wico are almost the same, but not quite.  Only the case seems to be different: the wico tb has smaller mounting holes (as noted), the lip is not as tall, and the outline is not as curved as the betson.  The insides are laid out the same, from the rollers, optical PCBs, wires, mounting holes, and even the holes that are used to hold the tb top and bottom together.

My best picture ATM:
