Ideal PC Configuration??
GGKoul:
A simple question:
What would you consider to be the:
Min - PC requires to run, some of the older roms?
Middle - Requires to run some if not all of the roms with some slow-down
Best - Too run all every roms with no hic-ups or slowdowns? (Metal Slug 3)
Just too start the discussion going. I have:
AMD Athlon 1000mhz
512mhz of RAM
Windows XP
Geforce 2 XM 400 w/TV out
Monitor: 29" Zenith TV
I have no problems running any game that presently exists.
I raise this question only because there are lots of people out there that have older PC's and can't afford to have a 2 PC's (Mame only and home PC) But there's lots of cheap used computers these days. And it would be interesting to know the min requirements to run the classic games like PacMan and Galaga.
------------
Whats more important when running roms.. CPU or RAM?
Thanks

I currently have an AMD K62 450Mhz with 384 MB ram and I would classify it as "middle"
I also have an AMD XP1600 with 256 MB ram and as far as I can tell, it's "high" -- I don't know how much lower you could get away with and still have it be "high" but I can't see needed to go any higher at this point.

I have a Duron 900, 128MB DDR, and a cheapo 32MB video card. Running on windows 98 and everything seems fine to me. Although I've only got about 500 roms.
I previously had a 200MMX (running dos7). Older games were fine. Simpsons, NBA Jam, SF2 all suffered slowdown on that.

P3-800 (512MB)seems to work perfect by me -for every game I tried.
P2-350 works still good with games like Willow, but stutters on simple looking games like Puzzle Bobble4.

I have a P866 MHz, 256 Ram, and ATI Pro Rage Fury...
running Mame32 inside Windows 2000 Server.
no delays for all games I play....
