OK, this game is readily available used for 10 to 15 bucks. What is it about the plastic wrap that makes it worth $500? The guy is charging 20 bucks to ship, which is a crime in itself.

I don't get it.

I used to love that game. but, $200 is freakin' crazy. People have paid more for different collectable pieces of crap.

why?  if your buying it for in package, you can't even play it !?!  i never understood people who collect useless stuff.  i mean, if you collect old cars, at least you can drive them if you want.  but a video game from an old console still in package?  i'd rather buy a 400 dollar star wars yoke.  at least i can play the games if i bought one.

Final Fantasy 3 is one of my all time favorite console games.  I bought it brand new for 75 bucks on launch.  Then came Chronotrigger.  In fact I still have both cartridges complete in boxes!  But alas, I find more time to play them on my Emulators than on the actual consoles.

I agree, I buy cheap carts to at least help support the game carts in a small way (and to aliviate my consience I suppose - buy one copy to play one copy), but I would much rather play SNES on my mame cab than on the console anyways.

I have to agree, I don't get it at all.  No matter how great the game is at that price they are just buying the box.

i can see this game going for 300 or so, i hav personaly an individual NES game for $100+
(Unlicensed Tetris - compelete with instructions in box)

i think its great that people are willing to spend such money on games. It shows that the classics are still valuable.

Amen!  Without those collectors I never would have sold my Shining Force, Dragonball Z Shinbutodan (import), or Dragonball Final Bout!  Each went for over 200 on ebay.

LOL too true.  I don't get it.  I'm not knocking the game in any way, i think it's a fantastic game, definitely worth the $70 it cost when it was released, but $255 for FF3?  It's really not all that rare!

You can find opened copies of this for like 50 bucks!

I find that pretty remarkable considering I still have the game, it's manual and the folding map.... (manual and map have definite signs of use tho)...

Then, I bought FF Anthology (which has FF6... the SAME game) a couple years ago.... got the strategy guide too.....

It would have actually gone higher, but the seller canceled the highest bid because the bidder had low feedback.

Yes, 10 or 20 years from now you will have a box with a cartridge inside. Most likely a box with a cartridge inside that won't function anymore because the onboard battery spilled it's guts all over the place and the acid has been eating the insides of the cartridge for years.

There is less and less 20 year old Commodore 64 and Atari computer hardware and software, but you can still buy a huge collection of it with the computer for $50.

Sell it again while there are still other pigeons that want it. I did an Ebay search when this thread was first posted, and you could buy working, opened versions of the game for fifteen bucks.

I reckon the box is worth about maybe 50 cents so if anyone wants to give me $609.50 for my Zelda cart its yours! (I'll even throw in a free NES Mario/Duck hunt!)

But like wine collector's who spend $$$ to get a rare bottle wine, the value is all gone when the bottle is open.   So they will never open the bottle of wine to find out it's ruined and neither will Caffine.

SNES, just like NES and Genesis carts, use a standard CR-2032 3V battery.  I've never seen one leak (and I've had a few HUNDRED of these go through my hands over the years).

As far as the data on the carts.  They all ROM mask memory chips to store the data (unlike prototypes that use EPROMS).  So the cart will actually outlive you, me and all our grand-kids. (except for the battery which will lost only ~15-20 years).

Although, I still believe the buyer did overpay for the game.. by about 450$.
