just wire an extra switch in the fuel pump....
you can put the switch in the glove compartment, under the chair, under the dash,... whatever.
my uncle use to put it behinf the rear seat...
someone stealing the car will NEVER look in the rear seat...
(well... not too convinent anyway...)

I prefer the sharp long stake and a heavy spring under the driver's seat.
Just incase you accidentally release the spring, you need to remember to put the thick metal sheet down before you sit in the car.

I still say a dog is the best solution. You want to keep people out and every other solution here is for what to do once they're in.
