I got my Arcadewerx cabinet From WWW.hanaho.com Let me tell you guys it's a beauty it came in two boxes 55lb and 85lb I say it took about maybe 30 to 40 mins to build it was so easy even my kid brother can do it, Dude when it was finished I turned off my room lights and plugged in Marquee light  WOW it was Beautiful I'm really happy with it not even did i save time not building one but I saved money Cause I bought a 21 "Monitor on Ebay for less than $300 , Went down to a little computer shop near by and bought a system for it, Man my friends love it when watching football they play a couple of games. I also bought a blacklight for it at night when playing in the dark the light glows has if you were in a Arcade hall  awesome

The B stands for Build Your Own Arcade Controls, not BUY your own arcade controls.

Not to be rude but... well.... why do we care?

We're all hardware types here, the whole reason we're here is to dive in over our heads and pull off something really cool. Made by US. Its a really cool feeling, sorry you missed out on it.
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

oh boy not this again...

I agree that its more fun to build your own... but understand that not everyone has the time, skill, or tools...

Of course there are those among us who would think taking an existing arcade cabinet and converting it to mame is lame... and god forbid you use anything but an arcade monitor =P (sarcasm there)

now I'm not giving you hard time brax (or the original poster... ) at least not intentionally...  I kinda felt the same way you did brax when reading the original post, but left it alone...

good for him... If I was more affluent maybe I'da gone in a similiar direction (well not the same direction, but similiar)... although building er... constructing my cabinet has been half the fun/challenge, cuz I'm a geek at heart...

But I don't find anything religiously wrong with buying a prebuilt cabinet,  just that it's expensive... and less interesting/less to discuss...

I think there is something to be learned even from a commercial product.  It fit in 2 boxes and hopefully is put together with fittings that allow it to be taken down and moved quite easily.  Details about its construction and how it fits together would help those building their own cabs.  I am sure there are others who would like to know more info so that it can be put to good use.

Cogame  please provide us with more info on how it goes together.  As others often say  pictures, pictures PLEASE.

Thanks

Did you build your own control panel, or just use a HotRod?

I would love to be able to afford a cabinet.  Why?  I'm not that good of a carpenter.  It would be nice to have something that looked good.

but...

I would have built my own anyway... Why?  Fun and something that I can say is mine.

But all in all... Not enough cash... So I will build myself....

Hopefully my next one looked more finished then my current one.

I really don't have a problem with people buying a cabinet. But why post HERE? That's all......

I don't see why anyone here would have much interest since this is all about building your own cabinet.

OK. So following Brax's line of thought, let's ban anyone who retrofits an original cabinet. Let's ban anyone who buys an IPAC/JPAC instead of hacking a kb. Let's ban anyone who buys a star wars yoke on eBay, instead of building a twisty grip. Let's ban anyone who connects a PC monitor to a PC instead of hardwiring an arcade monitor. And just for the heck of it, let's ban anyone who uses a PC because you don't really "build" your PC: you just buy the parts and put them together.

And Brax, if you pass all the above criteria, I'd love to see your cab.

And for Cogame, thanks for the post. It's good to know that there are options out there that we can actually convince the wife to let into the living room.

This is, IMHO, the biggest challenge in MAME cabinet building... :D

You know what? Never freaking mind. You don't get it.

I'm sorry you can't tell the difference in going to the store and buying something finished or having some.... ANY involvement in its creation.
You're right I need to be banned, I'm obviously not as morally upright as yourself.

Hey Brax, isn't it build your own arcade controls? Not build your own cabinet... Cogame didn't say whether he did his own controls and so what if he didn't. Since I used a keyboard encoder in a converted cabinet does that make me not worthy of posting here how I did it? Do I need to hack a keyboard to be worthy?

Cogame did some building, he put his own PC and monitor in it. Their is nothing wrong with that. Its no less of an accomplishment than converting an old cabinet. At least he's not making the restorers mad by destroying a restorable cab. Some have said if its in good enough condition to convert, its good enough to restore.

For the purists that built your own did you cut the trees down and mill the lumber yourself? I recently finished a dresser that I built from rough sawn wood. Some might say that I didn't build it completely since I didn't cut the trees down myself. To them I say  :P PFFISSHH!!!! :P

Welcome to this hobby Cogame don't let the thread crappers get you down.

Post some pics, give us some more details. It would be educational to know how they are being commercially produced seeing as how that is exactly what most people are trying to do is reproduce the old arcade cabinets in a cost effective manner and who would be more cost effective than someone trying to mass produce them.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

Nothing wrong at all with what cogame did.  He was able to select his level of involvement and he's happy.  That's all that matters.

Of course, this is assuming that he's not a shill.  Hanaho would never do that....would they?  :)

Chill out dude! No need to get upset. I just tried to be funny at your expense... :-) We're all friends here and there's enough room for builders and assemblers alike. If you enjoy building from scratch fine, if cogame enjoys the assembling part of it that's fine too. I can relate to you both. So keep posting, so that we all can benefit from our collective experience.

So cogame, can you take the dimensions of your ArcadeWerx and post them? That's a damn cool design.

For me, the building is most of the fun.  Yes, I enjoy playing the cab (although, I think I enjoy watching friends play it more and getting compliments on it).  The project is the fun part for me.  I feel proud to produce something that looks quality!

I actually don't have the time to build one with wife and kid and to tell the truth I suck at building and measurements and the control panel I'm using is hotrod I had the hotrod for a while and said to my self why build one when I dont know how  but you know the best thing i like is that you can take the sucker apart and rebuild it when ever you like  The reason why I posted my findings is because before purchasing it I looked everywere for somthing on the Arcadewerx and found nothing so I figured this would be informative for people who are woundering about Arcadewerx Like I did

I have to say that I agree with the majority here...  My first MAME project was simply buying a HotRod and plugging it in to my PC in my office.   :)

From that point, I bought a trackball, same setup on my desk....

I finally got to the point where I got a few tools and had some spare time and went for it and built a cabinet and put together parts and had a great time with it.

I think being a BYOAC'er is an evolutionary process, ya gotta start somewhere don't you?

Maybe in the future, cogame will want to branch out and do more, or maybe he will be satisfied with what he has, either way, I love that we have a place to show off our toys or ask for help in building.   :)

Brax was maybe a little off his first post, but no need to pound on him for it, we all get a little excited about this stuff and just need gentle reminders that this is a FUN hobby.

Peace to all!
