Help with google listing
stevejt:
I hope this doesn't sound like a silly question. I have read many articles on how to get your site listed higher in google. It seems important to have many links from other sites. My question is does anyone know any other message boards that allow links in your sig? I am not intending to spam, I figure there has to be something worth talking about on other boards. I asked some questions at arcade@home on their message board about the Raiden series, and was give a link that said "your post was answered here". Being used to the cleanness I find here, I clicked without thinking. It was a link to a full screen pic of a girl upsidedown taking a liquid dump on herself. Yes, gross. But what bothered me is my two boys were in the same room, (but luckily were currently being hypnotized by the tv). I was told I was being punished for trying to put a link in my sig. So don't reccomend arcade@home...lol I would be welcome to any other tips for ranking higher in search engines. BTW, I have heard that search engines are too smart to be fooled by content that is same color as the background. But can they be fooled by text that is 15 points color different than the background?
Any sugestions would be much appreciated!

Sounds to me like you just got a reply from an idiot, more then somebody bugging you about your signature. Unless you then contacted an admin about the pic that was replied to you, and they told you about the "punishment" line. Either way, thats ridiculous. Almost every forum allows links in signatures(although some don't allow the freeipod sort of things), but if not they should be stated in the rules when you register for the forum.
But Google wise...just get your link out there. Either in signatures, have other people link to your page, submit your site to other search engines(MSN, Yahoo, Excite, etc). Those are the best thing to do really.
And content the same color as the background...So basically flooding useless keywords in the background for the search engine to find, but the user would not see? I can understand why they might ignore that, but I haven't heard about it personally. I'd just refrain from it in general though, cause if a user ever highlights your page or looks at your site code and sees all sorts of odd keywords, it just looks ugly.
So basically just spread your link around. And of course, do an actually Google search on how to improve your Google ranking. There are forums dedicated to the topic that can help you better then I can ;)

dont forget to mention your site in the text of your responses sometimes https://dannygalaga.com/
google doesnt like same colour text as background because its a naughty place site trick so they will give you a worse ranking than if you had no superfluous text. also make sure there arent any dead links on your site. and try and get your address on as many RELEVANT sites as possible. so here is a damn good start (",). apparently google is a bit mysterious in whatever it is they are looking for exactly but what ive mentioned is safe at least...

I appreciate the replies. I was surprised though, that just about no one is even viewing this thread. I've seen more people read things with stupid titles like, "help", or "problem", or "must see". I though my title was stupid enough, maybe I should change it to something like "need all BYOACers help" or "really really huge problem". I would never do that, it just sounds too silly. But any way, can anyone suggest any other decent forums? I have searched myself without finding much luck.
Thanks Again!

My Mame32 page used to be right on top of Google searches for 'Mame32', but now it's a few pages down. From reading above, I think this might be because I had some text (the 'Latest Additions' at the bottom of the page) the same color as the background. I did this because people search for Mame32 in different ways; some people might call it version v94, others 094 etc., so I listed the versions a bunch of different ways in white text on a white background.
I'll fix that and see if traffic improves.
I guess I should add a link to my signature too...
