Asteroids Project cab - Deal or No Deal
« on: November 04, 2007, 06:26:38 pm »
This cab is available locallay for $95.  Nothing in it, just a shell.  Is this a good deal for an Asteroids.  Looks like the marquee is in good shape.  Art work on the side is not too bad, but will probably need replacement.

Are vector monitors easy to come by or will I have a hard time finding one?

My current collection:  Arkanoid^3, Asteroids Deluxe, Centipede, Donkey Kong w/DIIK, Frenzy w/Berzerk multi, Galaga, Galaxian, Gyruss, Mappy,  Missile Command, Multi-Williams, O'Boyles Arcade (Mame), Pac-man,  Sinistar, Star Wars, Tempest, War Gods

My first advice would be to look into the resto costs to determine if it is worth it to you.

Caveat: I love Asteroids. I have a dedicated Asteroids.

Vector monitors are not cheap (to the point that I wouldn't even put a price on one right now as the geographic fluctuation is so great since local deals are snatched up in a hurry).

Asteroids PCB sets (and power supplies/boards) are less difficult to come by. Be sure to include the cost of a new "big blue" capacitor on the PS ($12).

Artwork is readily available (although I think that artwork can be touched up nicely and may not need replacing). (Overlay is $35-40 and Sideart is $140ish ... all prices according to my notes).

Monitor plexi bezel and cardboard bezel are easy to obtain, but not cheap ($45-70 and $25, respectively).

If you had the "Owl-Eye" coin door, inserts are available for about $4.

Can't tell if the volcano buttons are in and working (my bad eyes), but there are those.

Oh ... and you'll need a wiring harness.

For me, $95 is too much for a shell without the plexi bezel or owl-eye coin door, but tough to say depending on local demand.

But .... I LOVE that game ....

It's blurry but it almost looks like the volcano buttons have been replaced with something else.

You be the judge...I just picked this up today for $175.00...fully working (though it obviously will need some work cosmetic work)...
