I tried getting hold of the Happ Marquee retainer, but it was pretty expensive to get it from Happ UK (about

I used cabinet magnets to hold the marquee to the cabinet, and used some 3/4" x 1/4" hemlock shoe molding to trim it out on the front.

I think the entire 8' piece of trim was a few bucks at Home Depot.

Do a Search man... this topic has been covered in depth.

Search for "marquee retainer alternative" (as a phrase) in the Main Forum.

Cool ideas fella's.  Sorry RayB, I did do a search (usually do) but didn't use the term you'd suggested. ..can understand it's just cluttiering up the forum with dupe threads blah blah.

Thanks for the info

Wow that sounds ace.  I wouldn't know where to get hold of that over here in the UK.  We have places like 'Homebase' etc which are usually crap at stocking stuff like - lol.  Will ask around.  I'm a little confused as to how you used these?  Did you have some sort of metal slats 'behind' the marquee and then the magnets on top with marquee sandwhiched in middle?

cheers mate

Happy 1000th post RayB, that one was number 1000

I wouldn't know where to get hold of that over here in the UK.
You can make your own by thinly slicing a piece of 1x lumber, and then sanding the top two edges slightly to round them.
That's all that piece really is.
The hemlock is nice because it's more flexible than some other woods, so doesn't split as easy.

As far as using the magnets goes, they are standard ones you'd see on a bathroom cabinet, stereo cabinet, etc...
I screwed the magnet part, one on each side of the cabinet, and glued the metal part to the back of the lexan.
The nice thing is that I don't have to do any unscrewing etc... to access the marquee light.
I can just pull that panel off of there.

Sounds like a good idea...I may give it a whirl if I can't find anything else suitable.  Thanks for the input everyone.

Hey Ras,

I found some great carpet molding at Home Depot.  And since your cabinet has the same basic design as mine, I think it would work great for you.  Nice and clean, *especially* on the bottom lip.  That angle on the UAII had me a little worried.  I'll get a picture of it up.

btw  What's the width of your cab?

Okay, here we go:

The piece on the left is for the to and works like Happ's retainer.  The screws go into the top of the cab, so you don't see them.  The piece on the right is for the bottom.  I was worried that with the angle on the speaker panel, I'd have to bend something to fit.

This piece, however, attaches right to the exposed edge and becomes a track for the marquee plexi to fit in.  The slot is 1/4" wide.

Once the moldong is attached and the marquee is inserted the look is super clean.

Hope this helps,

Coop

You're in the UK, right?  If you run out of ideas (and around here, that's near impossible), let me know and I can send you some from my left over pieces.

Hey that's wicked.  I can how the top piece fits on, that's very straightforward.  But I still can't envisage how the bottom strip fits on.  I've sent you a private message!

EDIT: Doh, I was being extremely dim....ok I think this is how you mean - tell me if I'm right >>>

again, check your private message concerning you're offer!
cheers mate

Precisely!  Nice drawing, by the way.

I just used some very small nails to hold it on the edge.

They definitely need to be painted though, as the finishes of the pieces don't match very well.
