Anyone have detailed photos of a Trackball setup
« on: August 27, 2004, 06:44:45 pm »
Can someone post detailed photos of the inner workings of a trackball setup. I've seen the individual pieces and pictures of a completed trackball set, but I haven't seen how the trackball interacts with the rollers and inner controls.

Thanks.

I was sort of thinking of actual photos, but that's pretty cool actually.

So the trackball just runs on metal shafts. Why does it seem like there wouldn't be enough traction having the slick trackball surface on a slick metal surface? I guess there is though if that's how they are all done.

Now, I see the two optical readers on each side, but what is all the stuff on the bottom (#s 90-1013-00, 95-0303-00, 91-1224-00, 43-0303-00, and 91-1219-00) and also the roller that is horizontal in this picture (#95-0575-00)?

Again, thanks.

I've one in my lap.

The stuff in the grey box at the bottom of the diagram is a little lightbulb and holder and screw.  Some of the Happ trackballs are translucent and look pretty cool when lighted from below.

I believe 90-1013-00, which you asked about, is a plastic cable tie thingie.

95-0303-00 are the molex (?) connectors that plug into the optical sensor boards (A052-1010-00).

The other metal roller is there to provide a third "leg" for the ball to rest on.  The other two rollers are at right angles to each other, so the ball needs something else to rest upon.

That's very helpful. Thank you both for the information.

Here's an actual photo for ya. The rollers on this one are a bit worn as you can see:

That Y roller is worn quite a bit, while the X roller looks barely broken in.

Let me guess: you're a golf and/or bowling gamer?  (or you bought a used golf TB) ;)
