Next Arcade: Anyone seen this?
« on: August 12, 2004, 11:23:16 am »

Anyone noticed these Next Arcade guys?

http://www.nextarcade.com/

I didn't find a thread on them bu thought someone might be interested.

Obviously they'll only be as good as their games but I gotta I think the machine is pretty good looking...

What is their Game Club I wonder?
Their modular controls look kind of handy. I wouldn't buy them but I want to make my own anyway.

Never trust a gaming company that doesn't understand the "joystick on left, buttons on right" concept.

Yeah and never trust any companies selling "FLAT" panels. Its really hard to play when the panel is flat. Its supposed to be slanted but I guess lot of people take the easy way out :D
Customarcades for example, their machines are like 4-5 Gs but they dont even bother slanting their panel...

I really like their site design though, visually appealing.

Very strange indeed... Are they providing ROMs or what? I would myself like to get a hand on their basic control panel while waiting on building my own cabinet...

Hoax?

As a left hander, no.  Played too many games as a youngin' with the stick on the left.

The 2nd player on this custom build cabinet is also inverted (maybe to adapt left-handed player); I never saw this on an official arcade thought.

Very, very, very few original machines were "joystick on right".

Starhawk
Gorf cocktail
Rally-X cocktail

Those are the only ones I can recall off the top of my head, but the grand total probably isn't more than ten games.

Lots of early games were ambidextrous and had the buttons on both sides, but 2 player games almost universally put the joystick on the left of the buttons, as did every console Nes and up.

I agree - I'm left-handed as well, but couldn't image moving the stick with my right hand.  Course I never got the hang of using a mouse with my left hand either  :P

Same exact comments as above.

I can't make drawings in Illustrator with the mouse in my left hand, but I sure can with a stylus.

Never got the hang of the buttons on the left, either. Moreso than righties, us lefties are usually naturally a bit ambidextrous anyway... whether it's out of necessity or genetics, who knows, but that's the case.

I always prefered joystick on the right, buttons on the left for arcade games. I only use left handed sticks when playing fighting type games. It's nice that this company gives you a choice. They have some interesting ideas, like the LAN and console cabinets and stands.

You're hosting your image on a Tripod site, so all there is is an image that says 'image hosted by tripod'

To get around that, rename the image extention to '.txt' and link with the image paramenter as normal.

This isn't my picture, so I just host it on my server. FYI, your little trick isn't bullet-proof HTML standard, so I don't recommend it to non-IE users...
