Bite me. Not all of us want top-of-the-line PCs for our cabs. I like freebies.  ;D

rchadd:

Doesn't seem much improved from R36B11 when it used samples ;-)

If I remember correctly, you can;t play more than one sound sample at a time.  SO you aren't hearing overlapping sounds.

Howard_Casto:

For the record I meant upgrade mame or die, not your computer.  If your computer can't handle the latest version of mame then I pitty you as you could pick up a pc that could for next to nothing on ebay.

I can see not upgrading mame but every major version, but people running less than .74 need to get with the program.  I'm not referring to lame harddrive games and junk you don't want, I'm referring to major core rebuilds which improve accuracy/functionality to all games.  And besides that there are constant driver changes with improve the playability and accuracy of some of mame's oldest games.

Example:

The current u build fixes ancient problems with pacman and defender/stargate.

Pacman! Pacman is the first game in mame.  The first!!!  And besides everybody loves pacman.  It's kinda like the asteroids fixes sirp mentioned.  See what I'm getting at now?

Mame is a living project, until it's dead (don't see that happening)  it would be in your best interest to upgrade every few versions because many of these fixes go by unnoticed until you fire it up and go "wow they fixed that, cool!".

And I know that older versions of mame are supposed to be faster, but lets face it, unless your pc is sub 200mhz you aren't gonna see that much difference.
