I'm wondering the same thing too.
I plan on putting the final picture on my hard drive in video arcade/jukebox pics that I've collected.

Hi, and sorry for the delay in construction updates. We took a few days off for vacation and returned home to find one of our fishtanks had leaked, spilling 55 gallons of salt water all over the floor. Besides the loss of several corals and and the hardwood floor damage in that room, our whole house smells like low tide right now....peeeeuuu!

So, our attention has been (hopefully briefly) diverted from jukebox construction for a short time. I really hope to get back to it in a week or so, though. This kind of construction isn't nearly as fun as jukebox-building!

So BYOFishTank isn't a good idea?

I feel for you...I lost a 150 gallon tank moving...thankfully, I tested it out in the driveway of the old place instead of filling it in the new place and finding out the hard way it leaked!

I hope that you have maded some progress on the Juke Box

Thanks everyone, for the sympathy on our smelly fish tank disaster. Fortunately, it was just a tank for growing coral fragments, so we lost a bunch of $$$ in coral, but no fish. Ohmygoodness DrewKaree, I can not imagine what I would do if our 150 gallon tank sprung a leak!

After hearing your story, I will definitely remember to test first if we ever move.

Today we finally got back to the jukebox....yaaaaay! We'll get the priming and sanding done today, and we'll hopefully do the painting one night this week.

In the meantime, I do have one pic to share. Pixelhugger designed an awesome marquee for the jukebox. This is his first draft, below. We liked it so much that we decided to use the center ball for the side art. I think he's going to add a chrome or neon border to it for the sides. Coooool, yes?

I guess I should explain the "CJR" part on the marquee. It stands for "Chris, June and Rachel." Since this was a family project, we wanted to show that in some way.

We're getting close now.... we painted and installed the sound-activated lights and t-molding this week. The paint still seems to be a leeeetle bit tacky, so I'm going to wait until tomorrow to wire up the buttons. We'll put the front door back on then, too.

So, more pics to follow soon, I guess....

I have an observation on your marquee. The CJR ball is "glassy" while the rest of the marquee is decidedly NOT. I'm thinking either make the whole marquee glass-like or make the ball "flat". I would opt for the whole marquee to be glass-like, as that CJR ball looks phat!

If, after looking at it, you think I'm an idiot, then just tell me to blow it out of my nether region

but I really think you'll like it more if the whole thing is glass-like.

Pixel, if you read this, excellent work yet again and I'm sure the final version of the artwork will have everyone raving about yet another of your contributions.

Thats really coming together! The sound activated lighting is such a perfect touch.

The rest of the marquee's glassiness is definitely hard to see when scaled down to fit in the post. Here's a close up (at actual size). The glassy neon tube will probably have a glow added around it in the final version. I'm currently working on side art that will include the ball and neon which will further tie the design together.

Droooool - the marquee looks better every time I see it! I think the neon and chrome in the artwork is going to set off the lights and t-molding perfectly.

I'm happy-dancing over here now... need music.... better go turn on the jukebox...

Yeah, now that I see that, it's easier to see it on the smaller version. I think adding a glow around the neon is definately needed to make it more photorealistic.

I'm wondering if the light angle on the top of the ball will match the tubing glow, or would something more along the lines of the area in the snippet I have match up? Dunno if you follow, but basically make the shine (light angle) go further up on the ball so that the area I've shown is the light that shows on the top of the ball.

BTW, this in photoshop, yes?

Hi Gary,

I'm sure I could have found the lights a lot cheaper, but I realized on Friday that it would be *much* easier to install them underneath while the cabinet was empty. So, I just ran out to our local CompUSA and bought these:

They were oh-so-easy to install. We just screwed them into the bottom of the cabinet and ran the wires up through a hole in the floor. Then, they just plugged straight into the PC power supply with a Molex connector. Here's the underside of the cabinet to show placement of the lights and the hole for wiring.

We got a few steps closer to completion today. Got the buttons wired and lighted, stuck the front door on, and a few other little things. Everything is done now except for the glass in front of the monitor and the artwork.

Oh, and I think I need to remodel the whole room now so that I can show off the jukebox. Guess that last step might just be a girl thing....

That is looking so amazing. Great work. The sound activated lights will add a lot of fun to the juke if ya ask me.

I showed my parents your project and the first thing out of their mouth was "you can build one of those when you get your own house, we are running out of room" heh.

I guess I'm lucky I got 2 arcade machines in the house

Wow, thanks for all the nice compliments. We really are having a blast with the jukebox, even if it isn't done yet.

We do hope to come up with a full set of plans to share when we're all done with everything. But in the meantime, I do have a page available containing the side dimensions. However... (BIG however here....) we wound up shaving 3" off the backside so that it would fit through our front door. And yes, I hate to admit it, we did assemble the whole darn thing before we realized it - aaaaargh.

Hmmmm..... it appears that I can't attach zip files or dwg files here. The jpg is a bit too large to attach here, too. I guess will post the side dimensions temporarily out to www.kingcupcottage.com/measurements.zip until I have the final plans cleaned up and corrected. Then, I'll convert 'em to pdf and repost here. (If there's a smarter way to do that, just lemme know.)

Yup, I've been slacking.... hehee.

Nah, actually, it's all done, except for the marquee and side art. The files are in the hands of the printer, so the juke should be 100% completed once the printing is done.... woo hoo!

I'm not sure how long it takes to get the prints back, but I promise to post the final pics as soon as I'm done happy-dancing all around the jukebox.

Hi all! im new to this forum, and to building cabinets. Ive got a lot of things on the drawing board, so to speak.
Anyway, this project looks like something I really want to build!!!

Im ordering stuff right now to start my MAME cabinet, using LuSid's design (with a few mod's). But I think im going to be ordering a few more parts to build this one first!!!!

Thanks for posting this project June, cant wait to see the finished product!

Would LOVE to see some plans for this once you've got them done.

If anyone knows where I might be able to download some jukebox plans (for free) it would be much appreciated. Ive seen lots of "buy my book" stuff out there, but I beleave that this sort of community is about 'dream, create, share, inspire' rather than making money.

Will be makeing site once my project starts.

Somebody grab that camera, 'cuz there's a whole lotta happy dancing doing on at my house! We received the marquee and side art this week, and finally got it all installed today.....wheeeeee!

I'm going to have to take some better pictures later. Right now, my camera is jiggling to the beat way too much. Major kudos to Pixelhugger and Scott at Mamemarquees. This pic definitely doesn't do their work justice. I promise to post more when we're done shaking our groove thangs over here....
