The only way I know of (there are probably other (better?) ways) is to place a shortcut to MAMEWAH.exe in your startup folder in the start menu.  This way, every time you boot into windows, it boot MAMEWAH.

Of course, it goes through the whole shabang of loading windows first, then it starts your fe.  I doubt there is a way to get around this.

Have fun :)

You could also use a program like ApptoService or Svrany to load the program as a service. This would then load when windows boots as well..... But once again, windows must boot up first.

Im working on something similar at the moment, but having problems with XP. Have now gone to win98, and once that is going will move the settings into XP to see if that works :)

On a similar note...
I set up Mamewah and Joy to Key last night to run from the startup folder.  It boots up but then seems to lose focus because I can't select anything.  Via Keyboard or controls.  I have opened task manager and nothing else is running that I can see and if I switch to Mamewah it runs fine but I can't boot straight to Mamewah and have it usable.  Any suggestions anyone?  Anyway to see hidden programs that maybe running?

this article describes how it is possible to replace the standard windows shell

http://shell-shocked.org/article.php?id=133

maybe it is possible to make MameWAH (or another FE) the shell?
