linux groovymame, replacing the mame with 2003 mame for older working titles

U wanna share?
I'm really struggling trying to get this all setup. My last mame expererience was 20 years ago and on windows and a front end that isn't around anymore.
I'm trying to get the front end looking presentable with art work etc and the extras downloads and mame sets I am finding I'm not sure are compatible with what mame version is built in.
I've been searching to see if I can update mame from within groovy arcade but I can't figure that out either.

In groovyarcade, just updating GM is a non sense, you have to go with a full update.
I encourage you to read the wiki, most of the answers to your questions are there

I don't remember if I pointed this out already... but have you guys thought about switching to Alpine Linux which has GroovyMAME in its own repositories, so it's just a matter of doing "apk upgrade"?
Substring:
what is different with "apk update" insteaad of "pacman -Syu" ?
Alpine isn't worth, uses musl, big troubles ahead

Does Arch have GroovyMAME as well in its repositories?
If that's the case, then ignore my remark.
