Area 51 - How to reload?
« on: May 03, 2023, 10:25:08 am »
I recently got a GunCon2 converted to Gun4IR, and am able to play some lightgun games.
I'm having issues with Area 51 though (Running GroovyMame, running the arcade version of the game (not a console version).

The gun shoots fine, but I can't figure out how to reload. Natively, Area 51 asks you to shoot offscreen to reload.  However, this doesn't seem to do anything.  Under button assignments, I can only find P1 Buton1 (which is "fire").  There's no option for button 2/reload button.

As this is one of the most popular lightgun games out there, I'm assuming there must be a workaround, or some other version of it that works as expected? Maybe I have the wrong ROM or something?

Ok, so figured it out, in case anyone lands on this post while searching.

In MAME.ini, change "offscreen_reload" to "1".  Can't believe it took a week to figure this out!  Happy shooting ya'all!
