Dumb question: Assembling a Wico ball-top leafswitch joy?
« on: February 29, 2004, 01:03:28 pm »
I've been using these stick for years, but it's been about that long since I've had to disassemble/reassemble them so...   :-\

To put them back together, the spring goes on top of the actual switch plate, and then the spacer and c-clip go underneath, right?  When I assemble it like this though, the c-clip itself is pushing into the plastic sliver pieces on the leafswitches.  This just looks wrong to me.  Plus, the c-clip can "catch" on the plastic slivers.  So is this right??

With the Wico, the shaft passes through a few layers, make sure they are all there.  From the top-down:  Plastic top washer, smaller plastic inner washer, rubber grommet, metal washer, spring, actuator and then C clip.  Just make sure that all those bits are in there, and it should clear the switches.
Back for nostalgia, based on nostalgia.

Yes!  Thanks, dude!

When I had the spring right before the actuator (below the base unit) I couldn't get the stick to poke through far enough.  The problem was that it was getting caught on the top plastic washer right where the stick tapers.  After fiddling with it, it "popped" through that extra 1/8" or so, and now it's golden.  Thanks again!

FYI, you can make it a ghetto-style 4-way by flipping the actuator so that the narrow portion is against the e-clip.
