Greenman's Slimline Jukebox Build
(1/2) > >>
Greenman:
Time for a new project.  I am going to turn this CD and DVD case which I picked up for $30 from the Salvos into a slimline jukebox for a special family member who deserves it!

Should be interesting as I will have to engineer everything to fit into this small space.  I also hope to store 10-20 cd's in it as a display of her favourite albums.

 :dunno

I dig it.

Looks like it was built from quality wood to begin with so a worthy subject.

Will this get the same software treatment/management system as the Bee Gees machine?

No, I will be utilising a touchscreen in this one.

So this jukebox is well underway now.  The difficulty I will have is how slim the original cd/dvd case is.  I therefore have to create my own custom enclosures for subwoofer etc. as I have no intention to compromise on sound quality.  The depth of the project is approximately 180mm or just over 7 inches.

Deconstruction

Construct active subwoofer enclosure.

Subwoofer enclosure completed

Sub will be double enclosed so 12 mm reinforced mdf will be fine for this section.

Great to be back on the tools.  My aim is for this to be slimline (unimposing) to fit with the home, yet when the volume is cranked up, it still sounds great!

You are on the path I would have gone down myself with a space that low volume.

I have friends who long ago (when we were younger and blew $$ on car audio equipment!) also crammed sub boxes full of fiberglass insulation.

Always assumed it was for damping purposes myself, but I recall someone saying once that they believed that it "tricked the sound waves into thinking they are in a larger enclosure."

Never understood that concept really.

A solid showing thus far with this!
