Are they major titles like DK, Dig Dug, Pac, Ms Pac, Galage, etc or are they more obscure titles. I haven't detected anything wrong with any of the sounds but I also don't have an original next to it to compare.

There was some recent break throughs in the late 70’s early 80’s Cinematronics Vectorbeam games (Star Castle, Armor Atrack, Space War, Star Hawk, Speed Freak, to name a few). The sound on these was pretty poor but a lot was done in Mame .223:

Also I believe work to Burgertime was done on .222

The whole sound stream system in the core is being given a big overhaul for the next release, better resampling and limiting all round too.
People playing the music games for example have already commented that a lot of them are sounding much better with the current code from github even if they haven't been worked on specifically.
Sorry for not providing specific examples, but yeah, a lot of work is being done, although the performance requirements of some of it are a little high for me to feel comfortable promoting right now (eg. Space Fury is currently VERY demanding, but optimizations are still in progress for many of them, as the first step is 'get it right')

I'm sure they have them in Florida as well... right next to the vending machines that give out guns. ;)

From what I have read, the law says that the machines can't be anywhere accessible to minors. Bars and such where you need to be 21 to gain admittance are still ok. But I think you would need a credit card mech nowadays for them to be usable, considering $12 a pack for weeds wrapped in paper.
Regardless, I have an antique one in the basement. It has been there since before I bought the old Hotel and bar. Been trying to figure out what to do with it, as I hate the thought of scrapping it.
Oh, and yeah, Pi's are a poor substitute for a decent PC and if the sound doesn't work right, the game is broken :)

How about making it a novelty machine and fill them full of these for a buck:
I loved them as a kid.
