I wouldn’t agree with that.
MAME has helped to save several real cabs and kept them OG to.

My Area 51 cab for instance had a failing HDD but thanks to MAME I had access to a CHD file to make a new one.

Well perhaps Roms dumps (And CHDs) could be considered, It should be noted however on older games, The pokey chip, as far as emulation goes would have had to be one of the biggest hurdles for a Dev to overcome, and wasn't ever truly hacked until very recently...Just saying.

Totally agree with this ^ 100%.

I have said it before snd I will say it again....

Dont use pre made images!

Hyperspin HDDs, Pi images etc none of them will do what you want and its harder to fix a setup you never made than to sort out a problem on one you did.

I never use pre made images, I build from the ground up so I know everything is how I want it and where to look in the event of problems.

I totally respect your opinion on the matter.  You are an arcade collector/expert and and any seasoned arcade hobbyist would take the time to install the emulators correctly.

Unfortunately you guys are few and far between.  Pi images have become a mainstay in the "need to get it working quick" community, and yes, the images have a lot to be desired.

The Pi images are not completely avoidable, and provide an insight on how game emulators work and their respective art on a particular platform.  On their own, the Pi images are little vessels of history and have an importance for their respective format.

The included games in these images, however, is another topic in its own right.    ;)
