Skated just about everyday day up till my mid 20's. A couple years ago I was messing with it in the garage with my board, had a little fall and was out for a few days just from that lol. Sucks growing up

This is not one of my better ideas, I will give that to you guys, your scary tales of impending doom is not helping my anxiety... I have never built a board before, so I will do a quick down and dirty build thread here to perhaps someday help someone else trying this...My first thoughts are like everything in this world there is a linearity to the process and genearally only one correct way to do it...Since I don't know how...Well, We will just tear it down and start over, not restoring it to pristine but as functional.

The teardown was easy, few bolts bla, bla, But when removing the old stickers I ran into the first problem...Incredibly cheap paint, the residue chem, would have just wiped the color off the board, Generally test first, but in this case just stop, before it gets worse.

The sandpaper tape came off nice, and residue was removed with damp acetone rags, being careful not to let it drip onto the other side, and eat the paint...

The wheels where a bit tricky, had to install bearings...I forgot the steel spacer in my first one so had the remove a bearing and redo it, That was done with a pigtail bore pick nothing fancy, and bearings set (after spacers installed) by just putting them on the axle and squeezing them with the bolt...The wheels are not going to stick out, all is good...

I would have to be of the opinion that those truck axels and tires are better than what came off there, (Althogh probably was set up for a different style of riding)...Anyway I know quality parts and great service when I see it...So a special shout out to my new friends...

And thats where this is at for now...I am going to have to spray some paint, for the pink fly, (and maybe touch up some damage), But then start putting it backtogether.

Ends sprayed green, skid plates added, scrubbed and buffed with a #6 paint cleaner/sealer, waxed, wheels added on 1/4" risers...

Looks great! Have you set foot on it yet? The new wheels are definitely better quality, which also means they’ll roll faster...

I got a video However, I am so not posting that...Jenn hit the ground hard (3 times) And the last time hit my head so hard (backwards), I may have been knocked out for a minute, You guys were so right about the horrible dangers...I diddnt break anything but really, really hurt, But I did get to push and jump on the darn thing and even went down a small hill, The little rocks were the worst, the board just stops when you hit one...After my scrapes cuts and bruises heal I will try this again and possibly make a better video....Sorry for now.

Sorry to hear about the bumps and bruises.  :( It sounds like you got a concussion; you may want to get that checked out if you have any symptoms. At least wait a couple of weeks before trying again on pavement; concussions are supposedly worse if they happen close together.

Definitely get that helmet and some protective gear before trying again, and stick close to the grass so you can bail on to something softer than pavement.

Finally, it might not hurt to practice this falling maneuver:

Your board looks sweet!

Now please go find a helmet that you feel matches it appropriately-
And also that friend to help hold you up until your internal gyroscope gets the hang of what you are doing.

Over the past 30 years I have literally taught thousands of people to skate, snowboard and surf and a brain bucket and a friend are the most important elements of safely doing what you are trying.

No matter how old you are are (or are not!)
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! I can fix it.

I bought my son a board when I was around 45.  Hadn't been on a board in 25 years and was never that great but I still whipped out a few 360's.  Sure I fell a couple times when the board slid out.  The worst thing for me was hitting a tiny rock which brought the board to an immediate halt and sent me flying.  I'm not afraid to try.  I'm 54 now and started working out with a personal trainer 3 times a week and been doing it for a year.  Feeling great and I can squat my own weight several times.  I will never stop working out now that I feel the benefits.

Oh, all too real, swan dive on concrete hurts...I am old enough to know better, (Jenn was working the fiberglass dept, for Classic Roadsters back in the mid 80s should you want to guess my age)...But this skate board thing is aparently highly addictive, The next day I couldn't get out of bed, couldn't walk without extreme pain, but laying there, I was all replaying the events in my mind what went wrong? ...it was very exciting to cheat death so to speak, when I was actually rolling when things went to plan, then the little rocks and cracks loomed up, panic ensued and SPLAT!...Jenn feels better today, and I WILL try this again, (and get another vidieo)😉

Yeah. That is the way to do it. Get right back out there after a concussion. Why bother letting your brain heal before you bash it in again?

"but laying there, I was all replaying the events in my mind what went wrong?"

An unathletic and inexperienced old person got on a skateboard. That is what went wrong.

I skateboarded when I was a kid.

I wrestled for 8 years before junior high through high school.

I was in Taekwondo for 2 years.

I have been involved in kick boxing and jiu jitsu.

I jog several times a week and I weight train on and off.

I carry too much weight in my gut, but overall I have excellent balance and a very strong core.

I am also short, so my center of gravity is good.

I still have no desire to get back on a skateboard.

If something is going to kill my brain it will be alcohol.

That sounds like a well rounded childhood with lots of physical activity...When I was younger, Jenn was going to be a crop duster when she grew up, So I spent years hidden in the basement researching principal of flight, and building model planes (pretty much just sniffing glue and airplane dope), Well in hindsight most of those boys are ex military, and have a short lifespan...Jennifer never did fly off into the sunset.

jennifer I have it all figured out.  The board you posted is all a ploy.  You are actually Paul Pinto and you created the board shown on the video below.  I have figuratively taken off your Scooby Doo villain mask.  The highlights of today are as follows:
•   I finally know what ‘that jennifer’ looks like
•   He created an awesome 25’ board
•   jennifer really knows how to skate

Definitely get that helmet and some protective gear before trying again, and stick close to the grass so you can bail on to something softer than pavement.

So much THIS!  The last time I was on one was as a kid.  It wasn't the fancy type boards you see everywhere now, but a skinny, flimsy, cheap department store board which could be found everywhere in the 80's.  Walked up a steep 1/2 mile long hill by where I grew up and decided to try riding down it.  By time I was half-way down, I was probably going 20mph.  The ass-end of the board started fishtailing wildy and I dove into the weeds on the side of the road.  No protective gear whatsoever (could hardly afford the cheap board.)  Had I not had that option, my current self would probably have been very different or non-existent.  As it was, it was difficult to walk home after that event, even at that age. Threw it in the trash when I got there :)

You know Randy, I think that is where the lure may be, after all these years, horrible nightmares, visions of horror, there is just something about beating that one ride, even years after the fact...I failed miserably, got back up tried it again, contemplated it when I was too  beat up to even ride it, suffered for weeks...And decided perhaps it was the board, too fancy for a beginner maybe?...Well...

I went to W/mart for a cheap board, (just to see), The Tony Hawk pro model (25.00) was junk, wouldn't even roll...Went to a sports store bought a longboard (plastic trucks, 60.00) this worked but felt huge and went really fast, although quite stable...Thinking thats not a real skateboard however because of its size, Went back to W/mart...The kryptonics board (25.00) had nice wheels,But board was fish looking and felt dangerous, So Jenn put the wheels on the Tony board...Effectively making another Sims pink fly board for 50.00...Well I crashed again (last night), This time hurt both wrists, left elbow, back of right leg, and possibly broke a rib, cause it hurts like hell...I have come to the conclusion nice boards, cheap boards, Large boards, (And in Randy's case Small boards) all command a serious amount of respect...Now Jenn has 3 boards, I will get one of these to ride for a sustained period of time, once I heal up a little.

My plan was to visit every state and touch the wheels of my skateboard to the local skateparks...Well aparently skatboarding is not cool anymore or something, can't find any parks, So will just hit every state (lower 48 Us.) If I can, and then Jenn should be pretty good at it I am hoping...After my rough start, I did 3 states today Co...Ks...And Mo.
