Favourite Competitive Game
« on: December 20, 2019, 06:41:44 am »
I am arranging a tournament at work on Christmas eve and I'm after suggestions for a competitive game.

I'm trying to avoid the usual suspects like Street Fighter and ideally I'd like people playing together rather than just going for high scores - it just makes it more fun when you're shouting at each other!

What do you suggest?

Hat Trick (by Sente) is a fantastic 1-on-1 competitive game.

There is a bunch of awesome competitive games on the Neo Geo too.

Soccer Brawl, Super Sidekicks 3, that dodgeball game whose name escapes me, puzzle Bobble, Art of Fighting 3 spring to mind.

Also, I played Title Fight again at a local arcade recently. I could see that being a laugh with a few friends if you have the set-up for it. The arcade uses two joysticks per player and two screens.

^ surprised you didn’t mention Windjammers, or Twinkle Star Sprites. Both greatly competitive and unique Neo Geo titles.
Nobody really cares about Soccer games... :lol

If we are going the sports route NBA Jam.  I'm pretty partial to warlords, though most setups can't play it.

You're right. Those are awesome games too.

I'm not a fan of soccer or soccer games either but arcade soccer games are different in that they are quick and fun. Plus, soccer brawl is not really a soccer game as you can punch and kick the other players. Violence always makes games better!

It's kinda like how I don't like American football games but I love Speedball 2.

Bonanza Bros was an arcade game? Nice! Loved that game.
My favourites are Virtual On, Die Hard Arcade, PropCycle, TMNT, and Time Crisis 2.
There are probably plenty more but these are the ones that come to mind right now.
Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.
