Router Bit Speeds
Bit Diameter            Maximum Speed
Up to 1 inch            24,000 rpm
1 to 2 inches            18,000 rpm
2 to 2-1/2 inches    16,000 rpm
2-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches    12,000 rpm

This is a good general guide.

Speeds over 100 mph are hazardous.

A 3 inch bit at 10,000 rpm has an outside velocity of 90 mph. The same bit at 24,000 rpm is traveling at 223mph. Get ready for some shrapnel.

Most people just buy a router and never touch the speed control.

Thanks. This old router I have doesn't have a speed control on it. The RPM's are 22,000.

This is the make/model of the bit I got. Looks like the diameter is 9/16":

I've filled it with bondo for now and put it aside until I can get a better/new bit for it.

It seems odd to bend that bit like that. A half inch shank is pretty sturdy. Without watching you I can't be sure what is going on.

I read some Yonico reviews.

It seems that wobble is a problem with them.

"Well, I machined the stock for some doors today using this set, but I decided to try to sort the wobble out first.

It turns out that the cause of the problem is the nuts used to hold the cutters onto the spindle. The spindle itself has a metric M8 thread, which surprised me for an American brand.

The nuts which are used are really badly made, as you can see below:

This resulted in the nut not clamping the cutter evenly, causing the wobble. Replacing the supplied nuts on both cutters with standard M8 nuts solved the problem."

Ah crap, that's not good. Thanks for finding that. Can you suggest another brand? I can't seem to find anything at the local hardware stores.

If you push the bit ALL THE WAY into the collet, the bit will not tighten properly even though you think it is..
It needs to be backed out so that it is only in the *fingers* part of the collet and not into the solid part at the bottom.

From the pic - the bit looks burned up..  I'd recommend a Whiteside slot cutter..
Finally - you may have tilted it a bit..  If you add a large secondary base to the router - it is much easier to manage on edges

The man speaks truth. Get a Whiteside cutter.  They are the only bits I buy anymore.

I got tired of bad cuts, worn bearings, and shattering bits.

Are you sure the cutter isn't installed upside down?  It will still cut but not as easily as if it was properly installed and could move out of alignment.  A slot cutter should go through MDF like a hot knife through butter.  Almost no resistance whatsoever.

No clue, I知 figuring most of this out as I go along lol. The first side was exactly like cutting through butter, only when I moved to the 2nd side it started slowing down as if it was blunt. Then I noticed the slot was a lot wider in comparison.

cutters cut in one direction..  So if you cut counterclockwise around the part (assuming that is correct in your case) -  then go clockwise on the second side - your cutting backwards on the second side
make sense?

Excellent point.  The blade needs to spin in the right direction (eating into the piece) and then you must also move the router from one side of the piece to the other in that direction.  You should be able to feel the difference.

Made some decent progress today. Quite frankly I知 amazed I made it this far considering I made more than a few screwups along the way.

One thing I realized is I SUCK at cutting angles with the circular saw. I知 gonna have to figure out a better technique before I cut the front panels. Probably gonna put that aside and concentrate on the control panel next. I知 not used to all this standing up and need to do something I can do seated lol.

Question: Coin acceptor or don稚 bother? It値l be for aesthetic only even though we do have a change jar which frequently gets filled. I just think it won稚 get used though.

Get a coin door.  IMO, all of the best arcade cabinets have really nice artwork and a coin door on the front.  Doesn't matter if you actually use it.

Add a coin door. You can rig buttons to the coin rejects to use as a credit button.
