 I'm loving this build!

Great work  :applaud:

Thanks for stopping by Sjaak, hope all is going well on the Felix front.

Quick picture of things put together, paint is drying now. Soon will mount the screen and electronics will be soldered up.

Anyone got any good ideas on how I should secure the acrylic to the top??

Mini cocktail glass clips made of aluminium pop tops??

Just a thought

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Wish I had access to a 3d printer still :(

I have no idea what you are talking about.
You're a bit young to remember when cans came with this style pull-tab.  :oldman

Pretty sure he's talking about fabricating something like this from the "tongue".

You might be able to use some metal mirror clips like these or these that precisely fit your acrylic.

Everytime I read this thread all I can think of is my fingers would be too big for the buttons.  And this pops in my head.  Maybe I would just need a playing wand.    :laugh2:

get a cheapo jeweler's saw and you can cut them out yourself in no time.  It's super easy and the blades come in packs of a gross so you can break tons while you figure out the smooth motion required to glide through the metal.

What I used to make the SW micro yoke.  15 minutes to crank out those tabs max.  Give it a shot.

The project is on hold until my replacement phone comes in. Unfortunately I teared the ribbon cable more. Not sure how it happened as I tested it before I put it in the parts drawer and hadn't touched it until I hooked it up recently. Anywho, should be here tomorrow or so.

Thanks for the suggestions on securing the acrylic. Still not sure what I should do yet....

Figured I would throw an update out there, Louis Tully and I started our micro builds at the same time and he is currently blowing me out of the water.

I got another cell phone, exact same model so I can just use the already modified mainboard with the new assembly and screen. I went the smart way this time though and found one with a broken digitizer (touch screen glass) as the actual screen is in perfect condition when removed. $8 shipped

Here is the LED modification I did to the buttons.

Using SMD LEDs from a piece of 5m light strip acquired from ebay.

Cap of the push-button is easily removed and the strip trimmed down

I keep the strip in tact as it is easy to overhead the SMDs with the soldering iron. The pads act as a heat sink, and it also makes it easier on me because SMDs are a pain as you all may know.

Rest of the pad trimmed and the resistor flipped to the other side

I drill a small hole for the wires to exit the button, insert the LED with a small bit of hot glue to keep it in place.

Test of the LED, perfect!  ;D

All four are wired to a custom little pad that is turned on an off by a switch on the back of the cocktail. I got a bunch of the control wiring done as well, running out of space though. These little things are something else, takes a ton of patience to get stuff right.

Thanks for watching.

Saw luis tullys update on how he messed up....figured I would tell of mine (not as bad or pricey though)

Ruined one ribbon cable at the onset, got a new phone had everything working and was getting ready to wrap things up. Told of this.

Then.....

It happened again, which means I had to get a new phone. I got up and something tugged on the power cord I made and the thing fell to the ground.....no worried I caught it before it hit.....but I caught it by the top half and ripped the ribbon cable in half....again.

Have been frustrated with it so I just said F$@$@# it for a little while. Thinking about buying a new screen now though, the thing already had everything wired up, LEDs and painted. I rolled out 5 big arcades and 2 small ones in the time I have been messing with this Petite one.

You are not alone Tully.

Oh no! Not you too?!?  I was wondering about this project.

I got great deals on those DS's. One for $40 and the other for $30. So, it's not as bad as it could have been. But I was right there with you on the "F$@$@# it for a little while" mindset. But, like you, having done so much with the cabinet, it's hard to throw in the towel now. We'll get there.

Eventually.....yes.....

Contemplating getting another phone, I might go with a different model this time though. Too cute of a machine to not finish it.

Good work Cory.
I dont see how you and Tulley do these micro projects. My eyeballs would be falling out after a while, not to mention my fingers getting all tangled up.

It definitely takes patients and a steady hand.

Even though it will cost me some more and it is frustrating, I still have to finish it. At least for the fact that it will be the first Micro Cocktail (unless someone made one before....)

Why didn't you just use one of those cheap 4.3" android tablets and wire it up to a KADE?

Seems like a lot of trouble in the wiring department.

You might want to reinforce that 4mm MDF CP with some plexi.  ;D
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

4.3" is too big for this cocktail

Also, this guy is perdy sturdy already no need for reinforcing

I aim to finish this build, hopefully without having to buy another phone.

Nice size sheet of really thin MDF - $4

2 Digikey Micro Joysticks - $30

Cell phone with pull out qwerty keyboard and cracked digitizer - $10 (assuming you don't have to buy three)

These buttons about 6 of them in the order - $6

Random bits of wire, dc jack, usb cord - like $5 at the most

And last but not least, having patience (lots of it) and not having sausage fingers - Priceless

Total = Roughly $50 - $60

The phone I bought did not have a pull out keyboard (even though it mentioned that it did in the ad)

So I order another, going to try and get it finished before I go on vacation so I have something to play.

I'm in Ireland Ricky.

I was thinking about building an arcade while here but not sure how much extra work it will be having to go to a "Men's Shed" or Hackerspace to get the job done as i'm in a flat here in Dublin.

Hey, do you know Shawn? He lives in Ireland! Goes by the YouTube name "JackSepticEye".

(Sorry - had to do it. I'm still surprised at the number of times I've talked with people who don't live in Canada, and they ask me questions like that. Like a year or so ago, talked with someone who asked me if I knew their friend Bill, from Vancouver. Dude. I'm in Ontario, that's more than a stone's throw, ya know?)

Hackerspace sounds cool. "Men's Shed" sounds like a bath house. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's what you're in to.)

;)

No, but I have chatted with Paul Chato from The Frantics on a couple of occasions. I also met Billy Van from 'The Hilarious House of Frightenstein' (and Bits & Bytes) once. Oh, and my Wife's best friend's brother is in Sum 41.

That count?

Had some free time lately for some projects. Thought I would use my newly acquired 3D skills and 3D printer to get to it.

The old one was in pretty bad shape, following me along so many moves (several different countries), always telling myself I would get to it one day. I used that as the base for my measurements for the design.

I used a raspi this time around with retropie. I also used an Xin-Mo Controller interface. Audio I used a cheap $3 thing from ebay that is one of those portable ones. For power I put one of those cheap power banks inside and ported the charge port to the side of the cocktail.

All in all very glad it is done!
