I've been borderline beating my head against a wall trying to learn how to use CRT Emudriver with a Standard PC CRT Monitor. I've made leaps and bounds but now I am beyond lost with modelines. I thought it was hard enough trying to learn what one is and how to edit one but now idk how the heck to get GroovyMAME to actually use my modelines correctly.
I've come up with two hacked Monitor Presets I can kinda make work. ie I can get some games to display correctly but no where near most.
My monitor only seems happy remembering so many geometry settings. I think about 8 after this it starts forgetting the settings I used for the first resolution I put in. It also seems to treat most resolutions in the same hundreds value as the same ie 512-576 will all use the same settings. if I set everything up for 512 alot is cut off the top and bottom with 576 or visa versa. This is the main reason I started editing modelines manually. So that the monitor geometry settings for 5xx all fit the screen. While doing this I noticed if I really change the values my monitor will treat one resolution differently then another but since I am limited to about 8 geometry settings I need to take advantage of it treating these resolutions similarly.
After figuring all that out I thought I'd finally figured stuff out and I was getting ahead but now many of my games are showing new issues. I think it is soley related to refresh rates and how they effect modelines and since I dont really understand the connection or how to manage it I'm completely lost again!!!
As now many games that display using the same resolution have started displaying with very different modelines and I don't know how to fix it besides making a ini for most games and defining a modeline pergame but that would be insane with 85 games in my cabinet.
As I have seen no replies to my other post I kept digging through linked post to linked post until I saw Calamity say this

On a side note, I'm amazed people still do manual modeline adjustments. Last time I did that was around 2008-2009 I'd say. I guess there's an urgent need of some video tutorials.

And now I can't help but wonder was there ever a video tutorial made? That would be a GOD send by this point and if not what are they referring to how else could or should I be editing these lines other then manually. There is not a single preset that fits my monitor and even when I find a modeline for a resolution that works perfectly it gets warped by games with different refresh rates. From what I can tell refresh rates very completely from game to game so my monitor will never remember enough settings for me to adjust for each resolutions and refresh rate!
