Anyone ever used HAPP stick on VINYL?
« on: February 06, 2004, 11:43:30 am »
I am looking for some input on HAPPS peel and stick vinyl.  I thought about using some of this stuff on a control panel top and wondered if it worked well or if it scratched easy or just didn't hold up.

Let me know your experiences.    Its like $4.50 a roll and thats not too bad a price, but i didn't want to waste my money if it sucked. lol.

I believe that is the price per foot, not roll.  I have used it for the sides of my cabs and it is good.  I am not sure how it will handle on the CP, but I think it is pretty tough.

The HAPP Pica vinyl (black) is on sale for $2.80 per foot. This stuff applies easy and looks good. It is fairly durable. I just covered a CP in it, will let you know how it goes after I put some mileage on it.

I just got some of the black pica vinyl that's on sale.  I'm going to use it for the sides of one of my cabinets.  I haven't put it on yet, put it seems pretty durable, and $2.80/ft is a great price.

I'm sure it would be fine for a CP, it's very similar to the parts express vinyl, and I've used that for a few CP's and it's holding up just fine.

Hmm, i  must have overlooked the per foot charge. lol. I had seen the roll in the pic and kind of assumed it was a whole role, kinda like the contact paper lol.

I am still looking for some input on the control panel usage though. I was hoping someone had used this stuff on a panel so i could hear whether or not it was worth messing with as opposed to formica.

thanks again  :)

Any experience on how it compares to the normal COntact brand paper youd find at the store? Thicker, textured, stickier, etc

i haven't used it on anything yet but I can comment on the texture at least - it is a plasticy bumpy feel - I think it would probably hold up to control panel use (depending on the strength of the adhesive.

I just bought a couple feet of this to use for a control panel.  It looks like it will be perfect.  It it quite heavy and has a nice surface to it.  Justin has used something simular on his control panel (the parts express vinyl)

The stuff from happs looks identical to this but is REALLY wide (40") so you could even cover front panels, side panels etc with it.

Does the stickyness of it allow for it to stay where you put it or did you need to press and roll it out. Also, did it seem like it trapped air very much in bubbles as you unrolled it?     The picture looks sharp! I like the way it looks. It has an almost formica'd look to it.   Does it feel like the vinyl that you find on say a cars dash?  Just curious  :)

I've worked with it a few times, and once you set in place, it doesn't want to move to freely. It's definitely good adhesive, so make sure you do it right the first time.

Also, if you're curious about the look, any BestBuy or CircusCity  :D has speaker boxes covered in almost the same material. I'm willing the gamble though it's just as comparable as the vinyl from Happs.

It's only going to be as neat and durable as the application. It's like applying sideart, the more you lift and resposition, the least likely it is to hold up.

Cut what you need , for say..the side of your cab ... then peel and stick as you work your way down the cabinet side.

Lance,

Where'd you get those black bolts for your J-sticks?

Thats not my joystick, that is the image from Justin's website.  I'm using a metal control panel and studs welded to the backside so there will not be able bolts showing on mine.

How do you think sideart (sticker type, 20 year old NOS stuff), would apply to this stuff.
