Mame Button Mapping
« on: June 12, 2018, 12:26:55 pm »
Hi,

I probably should have figured this out a long time ago - and searching the site is not helping me much.
I'm at the step where I'm wiring buttons to my UltimateIO card.  For now I'm starting with Mame and may add other emulators down the line.

I have 8 buttons (2 rows)
Is it as simple as:

5678
1234

For mapping?

Any pointers appreciated.
thx

For the least amount of remapping for MAME, especially 6 button fighters, I'd think you'd want
1237
4568

If NEOGEO or Vectrex is your main thing, and you want to use the top row, you could use
1234
5678

Overall, I don't think many people are going to expect the primary row to be the lower one. Of course, you can remap to your heart's content in MAME, so it's really the other emulators that you need to think about.

ok - cool
This helps a lot..
I'll just remap any games that I do not like the positioning of the buttons.

Just needed a lowest common denominator starting place.
Thanks!
