And I’ll explain further, and slowly for you... arcades of the 80s and arcades of the 90s were two different things. The overall theme of games/arcades of the 80s was you against the machine. Your goal was to beat the high score and the machine itself. By the 90s, with 4 Player cabs, linked racers, and fighting games, it was less about how good you were at the game and more about how good you were at beating others. They are really two different experiences. For those of us in our mid 40s who straddled both eras growing up, it’s pretty clear to see. |

--- Quote from: Ian on December 02, 2017, 09:53:50 am --- The table behind me consisted of 3 guys probably in their late 20's early 30's and they screamed "that was a Title"? (which side note, I think a good indicator for your age going forward. Some say "Games" and the younger generations refer to them as "Titles". A good marketing method for video game companies to make their video game sound more important than it actually is no less.) --- End quote --- That's an interesting observation. I've noticed younger gamers using the word "title" but hadn't made the distinction. I suspect Joust will become a lot more universally known once the Ready Player One movie comes out. |
