Power Supply Question
« on: June 02, 2017, 02:58:37 pm »
I just bought a 421 in 1 Jamma Kit with power supply.  In the manual, it shows a diagram on how to connect it.  The problem is, the manual and the power supply don't match.  It's close but showing 3 grounds instead of the -5V connector.  Also, the wiring harness has a blue, not green, wire but I assume they were just low on green and used blue.  Easy enough.  My question is, can I assume I need to hook the -5V to the first ground pictured below.  It shows the diagram and actual unit side by side.  Thanks in advance.

your question should be dose the board require -5 ? if not you are good to go with that power supply
if it dose then that is the wrong supply
call the dealer you bought it from

Shipping something from the U.S. to Canada for repair/exchange?  Please use USPS to avoid (additional?/excessive?) shipping charges.  PM me if you have any questions.

I didn't think any of the X-in-1 boards used -5v.   :dunno

If the manual in the picture is for the power supply, ignore the -5v. (they sent you the manual for a different supply)

If the manual in the picture is for the PCB, I suggest contacting the  :censored: vendor that sold you the  :censored:  board with the  :censored: manual and tell them to un- :censored: their products or at least include a correction sheet or note on their  :censored: site.  :bat

(No vendor name or links here please due to Rule 5  :police: )

Also remember to adjust for the non-standard JAMMA harness wiring -- IIRC two pins on the board (27 and e?) are inputs instead of ground.

Ok, I will contact  :censored: and find out what's up.   The wiring harness colors don't match the manual either.   UGH.

Have you actually taken a multimeter to this power supply?  :bat

Not yet, just unpacked it and was reading through the manual to get a game plan.  I'm a total noob so I am pretty sure I will blow myself up.

I think you are right, in the manual for the board, it doesn't show a -5v so maybe I am ok.

:lol

The wiring harness colors don't match the manual either.   UGH.
IIRC the AC wire colors (brown/blue) are standard for UK. (+Europe?)

    AC connections: (U.S. wiring colors)
Ground - FG/Field Ground/Frame Ground (green)
AC 1 - "Active" = Hot (black)
AC 2 - Neutral (white)

DC connections for board: (look for the divider "key" Pin 7/H)
Connect the (yellow?) wires from JAMMA Pins 6 and F to the 12v terminal on the power supply.

Connect the (red?) wires from JAMMA Pins 3, C, 4, and D to the 5v terminal on the power supply.

Connect the (black?) wires from JAMMA Pins 1, A, 2, B, 28, and f to the ground terminals on the power supply. (IIRC, JAMMA Pins 27 and e are inputs for your board, not tied to ground)

Standard JAMMA pinout.

Most newer equipment just doesn't use the -5 so a lot of power supply makers are saving 50 cents and making the supplies without the +5.
