Had that towed to Toyota on Saturday morning.  Halfway contemplating abandoning it there....

I'm guessing they would just sit it out back and charge you storage until you came for it later anyway.

They'll hit you with fees and then sell it with a mechanic's lien on it.  Happens 24/7 in Texas.

Ah, up here stuff that gets abandoned is usually rusted out and has problems that don't happen in Texas.  Often not worth repairing at all.   Salt does totally different things up here that make abandoned cars worth little more than salvage.

Now that I think about it most cars I have been around that were junked actually ran.  They were falling apart physically.  I remember a station wagon we had when I was a kid that ran fairly reliably but the floorboards were gone and the rear end was actually sort of falling apart piece by piece.     We had to keep our feet on the bucket seat in the back because the only thing protecting your feet from the road was some carpet.

My apartment complex everyone leaves their items they no longer need in the main lobby for the taking. I scored this brand new in the box. It will be perfect for when I move to a house here in the next month.

Tons of Father's Day meals today. Going to have lunch with my dad and brother, then my kids are coming to come over tonight and we're going to grill. I'm currently leaving a men's breakfast with my brothers in-laws.

I have a lot to be thankful for this Father's Day. I was put through the ringer last year which put my fatherhood skills to the test. But I survived and I even got to hang out with my bros at Zapcon this year as my own personal reward.

This year I'm relaxing at the house by the pool and cooking on my new grille that I got. :-). My daughter just turned one and loves her big brother. Life is good!

So, I took today off in anticipation of recovering from a concert last night.  Turns out they're straight edge and shut it down at 10:30.  Now here I am smoking a turkey and recycling beer on a Monday.

Was kinda funny to be the oldest one in the room by 15 years, but the band was very nice and talked to my wife and I for awhile.  I admitted to the leader I had stolen his album from youtube but wanted to make it right, so they autographed my legit copy and said we were square.   

If you're into hardcore emo/punk (metalcore?)  at all, their Undead Desperado album is unlike anything I've heard.

Apparently I'm not into hardcore emo/punk (metalcore?).

It seems to combine the monotone indecipherable vocals of metal that's too hard for me with the whiny vocals of little DC shoe wearing bitches.

It does have a bit too much gorilla voice for me.  But I'm more of an easycore fan.  But I do like A Day to Remember and some other heavier stuff.

If the lead singer sounds like garbage then it ruins the song.  You hear vocals more prominently than the music most of the time so it's perfectly valid to like/hate a style of music based upon the vocals alone. 

One of the main reasons I could never get into punkish music is because the singers can rarely sing.  They yell either in a loud monotone way or completely off key.  It isn't the yelling... I love heavy metal... but they yell musically... there is talent involved there.

Yeah, the vocals can be a little off putting but I was drawn to the rapid genre shifts in the sound and the overall 'concept album' thing.  The lyrics are considerably better than you'd originally suspect.  If it's not for you, cool.

Recorded, yes.  Live, no.  I can't even hear the vocals at a lot of small shows.

After a whole lot of wrestling with it my Tempest is finally back to 100% working.  Had a vector rom chip die, then a pokey, then the optics.  Got all of that straightened out, upgraded the spinner bushings so now it spins smoother than a skateboard wheel.


Even had to drill out a broken set screw inside the spinner that was probably sent out that way from the factory.  Pain in the ass but Tempest is back to better than 100%.

Probably been 15 years since I've seen a dedicated Tempest.  Circa 2001, I spent an hour on the phone with a space cadet that claimed she had one that she had owned since 1983 in her home, purchased from a Tilt, but it was under too many piles of fabric to get to, and she had far too many cats in the house that would get upset if I was there.  She was gonna do "some market research" to see what it was worth.  I was naive enough at the time to assume I was dealing with a sane, rational person but I did wonder why someone that wasn't actually interested in selling had asked me to call her.  (I had posted a WTB ad on usenet)

For the record, Rob Zombie is awesome.  That one song he re-recorded 100 times and tried to pass off as other songs is awesome too.

Chuff related - I made pickled watermelon rind.... And it's actually good.  Goes really well with my salted pork.  Partying like it's 1599 around here.
