SCUD RACE Official Guide Vol.1
« on: November 04, 2016, 06:32:38 pm »
Someone over at the Rolling Start forum has very kindly scanned in their complete copy of the official guide to Scud Race.  As the uploader himself describes it, 'It's not a typical guide but more an exclusive manifest about the game and its development. It contains detailed info how the game was made, about the people involved, interviews with key members of the team, and a lot of pictures of ingame scenes as well as exclusive graphics of cars and the environment'

Pretty awesome.

You can download it from this link over at Rolling Start

Here are a couple of sample pages

Thanks!

I have this game in my Daytona USA 2 cab, and I suck at it. Can barely beat the 2 beginner tracks with any car.

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Yeah, Scud Race is exceptionally hard, the accelodrift mechanic is particularly unforgiving and makes it very easy to spin out when you're taking the trickier corners. I've only ever managed to come once and that was so difficult and took so long I don't think I'd ever try to do it again. Weirdly, I think the Medium course actually somehow manages to be harder than the Expert one in this game. I still love Scud Race though, despite the fact the game's a cruel and unforgiving ---smurfette---. The visuals in it just absolutely blew me away when I clapped eyes on for the first time back in 1996, the Dolphin tunnel bit in particular was unlike anything I'd ever seen in a racing game before.

It's interesting.  Scud never caught my eye and I never really cared for it.  I would say it's because of the high difficulty curve, but I love Outrun and it can be insanely difficult.

I love these developer docs though.  There really needs to be a depository of this sort of thing somewhere.  I know when I started hacking 2k6 most of the promotional art and supplemental data for the game was gone from the net....  a game that is just now 10 years old.
