Control Panel / Artwork Advice
« on: April 29, 2016, 08:55:17 am »
Hi guys, I've had an artist knock me up some side art and a CP design based on the template for a cabinet kit I bought. I got the templates from the seller but when I printed them out actual size, they weren't quite right so the buttons/joysticks didn't quite match up.

I'm looking to give him a better template so he can match up the art with the control panel size, any ideas on how I can even start to get the actual size into an image file etc and still get the holes in the right place? I have no idea where to start.

Thanks
BadgerJohn

You should get the templates in a standard format eg dxf or dwg that any artist should be able to use.

You printing them out is just adding scope for error and confusion. If you want to check the dimensions you should get the measurements by interrogating the template electronically.

Thanks for the reply and maybe I have misunderstood you.

I received the templates in Illustrator, png and psd formats, I gave them to the designer and he used them to finish the artwork. I then printed out at 100% size (actual) and put it over the CP to see if it was all ok - and it wasn't.

OK, so first step is to see if the panel matches the template file.  Pick a distance that is wrong, measure the panel, and see what the distance is in illustrator.
