Ultimarc360 Output Harness replacing Xpadder?
« on: January 17, 2016, 07:41:14 pm »

I have four U360s on my CP, all plugged in only with USB. I just bought four harnesses from Ultimarc, plugged them into the IPac4, and that's where the trouble begins.

UltraMap doesn't recognize Joy 1&2, only 3&4. Windows sees the controllers, but no movement is registered. I unplugged the USB from 3&4, reset the computer, and 1&2 work again. But nothing is showing on the WinIPAC software as far as movement. I then removed all harnesses, and plugged 3&4 back into USB. Back to normal.

The main reason I want to use Output mode with my U360s is to avoid using Xpadder with Hyperspin and PC games. xpadder is such a pain in the ass to setup, with one of the worst interfaces. I assume using the IPac4 interfaces as a keyboard so I assume that plugging into it would negate using xpadder.

Does anyone out there use their U360 in output mode into the IPac4, with the USB plugged in, and not having to use xpadder? I'd appreciate any info. I've already contacted Andy at Ultimarc and just waiting for an answer.

Are your U360's plugged into a powered USB hub?

I use my U360 in output mode connected to an iPac2 and using Ultramap to program the U360 via USB for every individual game I launch in Hyperspin. For this I created and use HyperMap...

Do you keep the USB plugged in though? I program my U360 via UltraMap, and use Ultrastik Programmer ini to change maps. That works fine. Once I plug in the harness, in addition to the USBs, that's where I hit the snag and the joysticks go dead. Ideally I want to stop using xpadder and have the joysticks act as keyboard inputs through my ipac4, but without losing the ability to change maps via USB.

I'm about to swap my 49-way-rotary sticks for U360's and plan on using them with USB and Output mode to an I-pac. So, I haven't done this yet, but the Ultimarc site says:
Quote
4 Direction wires to emulate switches.
Responds according to the defined map (downloaded via USB).
Any analog cells are treated as center.
That leads me to believe you need to download an non-analog map to U360...?

If someone has the answer, I'd be curious to hear how to set it up properly. I can't image it's that hard, but sometimes there are nuances that are missed.

Yes I do as I also program the U360 runtime based on the selected game.

So something's wrong. I tried he four output harnesses from the U360 to the ipac4, and the joysticks were going dead in Ultramap. I also use UltraStik Programmer 1.01 to change the maps via RL. I'm really curious to see how you set up your joysticks with both USB and output harnesses.

I only have one. Harness goes from U360 to iPAC2. USB from U360 straight to PC. Ultramap (V1.1.19) worked out of the box.

So with the setup you have are you able to control Hyperspin and PC games without the use of xpadder?

What version of the IPAC4 are you using?

I don't see the joysticks connected to the iPAC on this pic?

I took the harnesses off since I was having issues of it not working when they were plugged in, causing no response from the controllers. I had the correct wires in the iPAC.
