Where to mount Lepai Amplifier
« on: November 21, 2015, 03:03:58 pm »
Just purchased an Lepai Amplifier to run some car speakers for my cabinet Iam currently building. Where do you guys think would be a good spot to mount the amplifier? The cab isn't complete yet so hopefully the pics help.. Thanks http://imgur.com/a/Wn09S

You should stick it somewhere on the outside... JK please dont

Honestly you can mount it anywhere you want. If you're not going to have any volume controls on the outside then maybe mount it somewhere you can easily adjust the volume.

I am not sure what encoder you plan on using but I just use a shift key and the up and down on my joysticks to control the volume.

Also I have used the same amp in many builds a (very cramped bartops) and I never had an issue with static noise if using the AC adapter it comes with.

Sorry Iam new at this and a bit confused.  So the Computer will be able to control the volume of this amplifier rather than me having to physically turn the volume knob on the amp?

Max out computer volume and then adjust amp to the loudest you want the machine. Then use shifted controls for easy volume adjustments, or wire up volume buttons on top part of most over under coin doors for authentic control.

Or just velcro the lepai amp on top of the over under door.

As mentioned depending on what keyboard encoder you go with (if you do end up using one) you can setup keys to control the volume.

For example. I typically use a Ipac which has a shift function. So when I hold that shift button down it changes other buttons. So when I hold down the player one start button and press up or down on the joysticks that will adjust the volume. Then when you let go of the player one button everything goes back to normal.

There are other encoders with the same feature.

I ended up purchasing the Xarcade DIY kit with trackball.. Seemed like a reputable company, Hope i didn't make a mistake? Also how does the amp get connected to the speakers? Do I just add a speaker connector and crimp it to some speaker wire and then hook the speaker wire to the left and right in the back of the amp?  thanks for the help fellas

Yes, plain and simple. Just connect the speakers to the outputs of the Lepai.

I mounted my amplifier to the inside of the front control panel. Therefore u can reach under to turn the volume.

Not sure if I missed it but will you have a coin door?
If so, mount it in there

Some people are born with a third nipple and some people don't have coin doors.
Crazy right? I know

Thanks for input and yes I purchased a coin door. Another quick question, what wattage car speakers do I purchase to work with this amplifier for my cabinet?

It doesn't really matter. From 5W and up.

Typically in audio systems like pro audio, etc., you would want to match your speaker rating to your amp.
For your setup you'll be good with most speakers but with that amp (I think it's 20watt), you may be best with speakers that are 20-50 watts or so.

If you need a good source of speakers at great prices, check out Parts Express
